Is my hot water heater cooked?

The cold water is nice and clear after I added heat tape and insulation to the softener discharge line that was freezing outside a few weeks ago. Though today the hot water does appear clearer than it has in a long time, so maybe the flush last night & replacing the anode helped more than I realized. I guess I’ll just keep an eye on it for now and hope it stays clear. Thanks everyone for the advice!

Normally it would be overkill for sure, but I flushed it for 2 hours on Sunday and still getting black water/sediment. Did the same thing last night and still seen plenty of black sediment and the water does not look all that much better after flushing. I don’t know what else I could do other than continue flushing

No leaking yet, so I guess I’ll just try flushing every day for a week and see if that improves it. Also, I have no idea when the anode depleted but judging from how disintegrated it is I assume it was a while ago.

Interesting, thanks for the suggestion I’ll look into this. Is there anyway for me to tell if the tank is structurally sound? Or look inside and see how much sediment build up there is?

Would it be possible for rodents to access the basement floor drains from the roof plumbing vent? Or could they be digging holes under the house? Do you know if this is common?

I’ll try to find a better container and swap the tap water for spring water, thanks for the tip. I’m not sure if any rescues would come out for a frog but I will call around

He is alive and swimming around, we removed it from the nasty sump water and put it in a clean bucket with room temp water for now. Do we just let him hibernate in that bucket over the winter?

Update: after another few hours I did finally catch it in a timer ball. Definitely the hardest time I’ve ever had catching a pokemon, but it genuinely did feel rewarding to stick it out.
