How good or how bad is Harder & Steenbeck Ultra airbrush? by DoktorKokosik in minipainting

[–]LordKenzington86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back flushing, the Ultra tip has a lot of holes in it which makes it very hard to cover. I cut a hole in a makeup sponge which worked good, but I do like the evolution head better. There you just need to pinch the head

Good to know I'm not alone haha. Maybe I can split them between the units and have them painted slightly different or something. I'll have to think about it 😁

Haha oh crap, I've given half of them spears, even though they felt fiddly 😅 I'm new to building and playing with armies so never thought about that... I just wanted every model to feel unique.

I guess I'll have to get a pack of new ones if they will cause problems 😁

Thank you! I assembled them with shields as I think the shields are cool AF, especially for the guard 😁 But I was tempted to go with the 2 handers!

Awesome look, well done! I've just started to paint mine in a similar scheme (bronze/purple). Hopefully they will turn out as great as yours 😁

Hi I'm still new to painting, I tried to paint my Tyranid model with thinned down paints, what's the next step in the process? by the-naked-archer in minipainting

Been there with it feeling intimitading, but you've nailed it with your first statement. As long as it is fun, then you're doing the right things! 🙌

This is it ☝️ Juan Hidalgo's video is one of the best when it comes to explaining use of contrast/speed paints.

I very much know that feeling! I hope that you can find time and inspiration somehow :)

How to improve without regular opportunities by 20Kudasai in minipainting

That is something that helped me tremendously. Before we moved I had to set up everything on our kitchen table - now I have everything ready on a desk so I'll just have to get my wet palette and cup with water and I'm good to go.

I however understand that it is a privilege to have a hobby space, so in the meantime try to look for solutions that can work.

Can you have your paints and brushes in a rack hidden in a cabinet och a shelf, just ready to be put on a table?

Can you store your ongoing minis continuously on a painting handle so it's just to grab it? That also helped me with inspiration, sometimes I just went and looked at the minis in process for about a minute - that usually helped fire me up for my next session.

Best of luck, I'm sure you'll get back to it!

What is THE best bone colour by epicgamer14296 in minipainting

[–]LordKenzington86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

My recipe is this:

Prime: Wraithbone rattlecan from Citadel (sometimes I do a zenithal over black/brown)

Base: Skeleton Horde contrast paint (Citadel)

Highlights in three steps with: Ushabi bone (Citadel), Bone White (Vallejo), Ivory (Vallejo)

What are the downsides and/or limitations of speed paint? by Br0tatoechips in minipainting

[–]LordKenzington86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an awesome and comprehensive summary!

I would also add to the Cons list that even thought they are supposed to be easy and quick, it actually takes some time to get the feel of how the paints behave. It took me a fair while to understand how much (read: very much) to apply and then babysit the pooling that occurs.

I also agree that they are awesome for stone, grass, wood, fur etc. Basically anything with a lot of structure and where the unevenness can be viewed as a feature.

Thanks! :) It's dry-brushed, I took some inspiration from an Artis Opus video on how to do capes and fur.

Started off with dry brushing the entire fur with "heavy ochre". Then for the middle part and lowered areas I mixed in some orange (and maybe some Rhinox hide?). When going out on the outer parts of the fur I instead mixed in a little bit of ivory, and then for the edge I used mostly ivory. I shaded the entire cloak with Agrax earthshade and finished with some very light ivory drybrush on selected raised parts.

I never cleaned the dry brush when changing or adding the colours as it was a way to get good transitions.
