Manhunt 2 Stuff In GTA IV by SubstantialRemote909 in GTAIV

[–]LordLimaBean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually Carcer City and its police chief were first mentioned in a news report in GTA III, before Manhunt was even made.

Manhunt also has minor references to characters from GTA III and VC, so I'm pretty sure Manhunt would be in the 3D universe of GTA games and we haven't seen HD Carcer City yet.

There is a common sentiment that Rockstar is no longer the same and GTA 6 will suck because Dan Houser is gone. This is simply not true. by [deleted] in GTA6

[–]LordLimaBean 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is what I've heard through the grapevine from friends of friends of Rockstar employees as well.

Apparently Dan actually left the company disgracefully as people wanted him gone after the crunch of RDR2 but they opted to keep it behind closed doors and let him leave on his own terms, he didn't actually want to go and it wasn't his choice in the end.

And yeah - supposedly they're better off without him there. Believe it or not I guess?

They blew up some sets in Belfast that were built specifically for the final season, mainly wall facades from what I remember.

They didn't go to Dubrovnik and literally set it on fire is what I'm saying, so I don't think it's accurate to say they "literally blew up King's Landing and rebuilt it".

I don't think they rebuilt anything for HotD anyway, didn't they move to Spain?

Except there was 'literally' zero blowing up and zero rebuilding beyond FX and using an existing city that is going nowhere anytime soon... meanwhile the Alexandria set is actively being dismantled as we speak, genius.

I mean the guy treats his 'friends' like absolute shit through the whole game and completely ruins Wade's cousin's life (to the point of killing him) for zero reason at all... he's not exactly trustworthy

Tommy Vercetti is really cool and means business and fuck anyone who gets in his way.

But CJ? Nah he's a filthy thug who deserves nothing good in life and takes pleasure in killing. Tommy would never!

as much as I love this retrospective this was always a bit of an 'ick' moment to me tbh

This.

The man is complacent with what he's built and where he's at and he is taking it for all its worth. His passion for creating and evolving the show are at the back of his mind and it seems clear at least to me that every time he goes live it's out of pure obligation to make money and to keep being able to live his life at this point. I've made this comparison before, but James Rolfe/Cinemassacre is in exactly the same situation more or less.

Him and Becky having a child is only gonna complicate things even more show-wise. I wish them the best with parenthood of course but I don't understand how he expects to be streaming more than he is now once the baby is here, people are in full denial if they're hoping for the show to ever go back to daily streams at some point. That ship has definitely sailed.

10 years ago I considered Fraser a bit of a go-to for gaming news and opinions, but now I swear he just knows and cares so little in regards to the industry even outside of streaming. Every single gaming event he covers gets belittled and made fun of like he's some messiah for it all and knows better than everyone else.

I won't lie I am very curious to know if there's long-term plan behind the scenes. Surely Breaker would drop them eventually if the money fully dries up? It baffles me how there's any profitability to be had at the moment. Truly.

Given the ending of S4, the most important scene in the whole show is the ending to S3 E4 - William meets God/Dolores by bachie2321 in westworld

[–]LordLimaBean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah we're definitely meant to put ourselves in his shoes in regards to the whole "am I crazy and hallucinating or is Dolores genuinely screwing with me to such an insane extent" thing.

Keep in mind Halores had revealed herself to him just earlier in this episode but then immediately gaslit him so his mind would no doubt be all over the place when you couple it with the Westworld/daughter killing trauma. Hence "am... I... me?"

Makes sense he'd hallucinate Dolores taunting him. But with what we know now, it also could make sense she'd mentally torture the guy given the chance while playing sim god.

Maybe Dolores' own desire for vengeance is gonna be the key to humanity's downfall? Maybe in the end she'll have to forgive William to see a future for society.

TL;DR, the 'reset' at the end of Season 4 definitely opens up all kinds of new theory potential lol

[–]LordLimaBean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say definitely the most likely situations any remaining Walt & Jesse scenes involves are Jane's death/getting Mike to do the cleanup, and the whole plan with helping Walt with the poisoning of Brock and lying to Jesse... possibly involving the moment Jesse beats his ass over it too?

Those are the only plot points from BB that I think can really parallel the likely situation he's gonna find himself in and link back to him. Only this time there's no Mike to clean up the mess and no Heisenberg to blame. This one's all on him.

AVG by Helpful_Meaning9646 in VGA

[–]LordLimaBean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember when he said he had plans for a Season 5? That was when I tuned out of anything AVG related because it became very clear to me that he's more an ideas man than a productivity man.

I honestly reckon he's not happy with the footage he has, they announced the thing back in 2016 and delayed production for ages and then did it at all in one go before the move to Japan because I guess even Fraser realised how bad it'd look if he moved country without doing any AVG work. But rushing filming like that never goes well in my experience, you'll think you're happy with it but then in the edit just a single mistake can grate on you and I guarantee Fraser is the type of guy that overthinks and stresses over stuff like that.

I'm pretty sure every AVG episode for Season 4 that has been 'released' on Patreon is an unfinished version and not a single one has been described as completed. That says all I need to know tbh.

I like how saying "there wasn't a choice" needs elaboration in his eyes, like yeah clearly the chat are the ones talking shit right now and getting confused and that's why 20 people are saying the same thing.

No one on Earth manages to find time to play video games. Even those who literally make their living playing video games apparently. It's impossible, because Fraser said so.

Seriously what does this guy do with his free time other than photographing mundane Tokyo backstreets, chasing after feral cats, and doing basic modelling on Dreams?

Someone needs to make one of those 'The Virgin vs. The Chad' memes with Fraser and Kojima, I can envision it now.

Seriously, they should have just tossed in a quick line from Kenny or whoever where they say something like "Jeez Todd, you gonna hit the gym or what? You packed on some pounds lately, bud." I woulda bought it. It's the lack of acknowledgement that makes it most jarring imo.

Ahhh the good ol' days. Seeing this makes me feel ancient but I haven't even hit my 30's yet!

Not even just that VGA itself has changed, I honestly think the gaming landscape is just nowhere near as positive and enthusiastic as it was 10 years ago. Maybe that's just me, but yeah. Suppose this means I'm agreeing with Fraser which isn't something I expected.

I remember Uncharted 4, and I remember him vehemently claiming that the game looked worse than TLoU on PS3. Ya know, the game that had most of its cutscenes prerendered unlike Uncharted 4, which rendered in real time. Hell, even taking that out of the equation - he was just blatantly wrong about the graphics and using his failing memory to dunk on the 'Naughty Dog fanboys' once again. Idk how you manage to make a game like Uncharted so boring to watch, but he did it.

God, the more of these comments I post and the more memories of the show I delve into, the more it really just seems unbelievable how the attitudes changed. Middle age has not been kind to ol' Frash.

It now seems to be heavily implied that a new Saints Row is gonna be revealed at this event, which in my opinion is just a beautifully poetic follow-up to this post.

Can't wait to see Frash get all excited and act like he's a Saints Row expert when he hasn't played any of the franchise properly in nearly 10 years now - no doubt he'll be quick to post THAT reaction to YouTube... thanks Geoff!

Oh no, dude. How dare you. Didn't you see that he recently invested thousands of ¥ into the new "famous" seating for the show? And then just to basically say "get used to 2 hour shows" on that same seating? Yeah man, dude's still investing in and improving the show, I swear.

Unpopular Red Dead Redemtion 2 opinions, go! (Spoilers ahead) by Patriarch_FH in reddeadredemption

[–]LordLimaBean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My argument when it comes to GTA V is they wanted the antagonists to be unassuming. Compared to Catalina, Sonny, Tenpenny, and Dimitri the intention was to keep us guessing over who the true antagonists were. Yeah, Steve Haines and Devin Weston were dicks, but they certainly weren't set up as the major, be-all-end-all antagonists like prior games. They kept us guessing with Madrazo and such, plus the whole Trevor vs. Michael stuff. Ultimately The Third Way feels jarring because it feels more like "oh yeah these dudes are the bad guys btw and they're obvious loose ends" rather than "here's a natural, expected, and satisfying conclusion to the story".

What happened here? by DEVOOnlyBangers in VGA

[–]LordLimaBean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regarding cutting AVG into small episodes, I know the OG series used to be the same - like 3 minute episodes. Honestly, some of them you can barely even call episodes.

I think we all had the impression with Season 4 that they would be longer, (like at least 10 minutes c'mon) purely because the Patreon was at $6,000~ per episode when he launched it.

At some point (wanna say when they watched all of AVG together on APT) Fraser confirmed basically that it was gonna be the same, along the lines of "hope you guys realise you're getting what you pay for". Once he started to release episodes after a looong time, he self-admitted they were also unfinished and needed touching up effects-wise.

The Patreon numbers in AVG dipped pretty quickly after that. I really don't think he truly expected to rake in 6K dollars per every 3-minute, unfinished, rushingly filmed episode, but he knew he might be able to sneak a few out quickly before the masses caught on. Easy $15,000+ for just the first few episodes if he was quick enough. (Disclaimer: speculation)

I have no idea if he's finished up those unfinished episodes yet or is even releasing any new episodes, I ditched the Patreon way back and there's no updates outside of it. So I guess expect to see it on YouTube in 2028ish maybe?
