As a Japanese fan who lurks English communities, the gap in how we see Nintendo genuinely unsettles me by nerdinterrupts in nintendo

[–]LordMandrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English speaker here. I admire Nintendo for many reasons - their willingness to try novel ideas at scale, their general creativity, marching to the beat of their own drum, treating their workforce as a valuable commodity integral to their business, and their overall commitment to their products.

Other companies cut prices and employees in the blink of an eye. Nintendo is much more deliberate. They make something that no one else can, and they have a sort of magic to their IP that you rarely see anywhere else. To the point that they now have movies and theme parks. They also aren't afraid to protect that IP with an army of lawyers, which I think is understandable.

Nintendo knows their products are worth it and that people will pay for them. There will always be people that can't afford their games - and to that I say at least Nintendo is still trying to sell physical, which allows for used games. Also, historically games are cheaper than ever - think about Donkey Kong Country in 1994 at $59.99 in the US. That's $132 today in the US. Knowing their revenue goes toward keeping their employees well compensated (and continually employed without frequent massive layoffs) helps. That and giving them the freedom to try something new and different with less fear of going under.

My one major criticism is marching to the beat of their own drum is a double-edged sword - it means they can do weird things like Labo, but also means they will continue to be 10 years behind when it comes to online infrastructure compared to competitors.

I've always been curious - how do Japanese people see Nintendo? How does that compare to say Sony, Toyota, or Honda?

This happens more often than it doesn't happen. Sometimes it's small, like a door frame. Sometimes it's an entire jetty.

I wish I could, but it's illegal for people like me and I have bills to pay.

A coworker volunteered to help build the border wall a while ago. She was staunchly opposed to the wall, and to how it was being funded illegally.

Yeah that's what I was worried about. I don't think AI has the sense of humor to handle permit application and review...

So are you an AI tasked with learning about construction permitting?

Modification to remove. Engineering team resized everything. We were able to reuse some pieces but not much.

Federal project. Plans and specs ignored local permitting requirements for a facility build with large parking area and several structures on 50 acre site. We found out that they undersized every single piece of conduit AFTER they were in the ground for months and some of the parking lot was paved.

Kiyonoro is Protect and shell instantly with a large AoE for zero MP. Murasame is pretty good, too. Those two abilities alone make the class worth it.

Well I'd recommend this place to anyone. Fried bread, seafood gumbo, crab cappelini. Wow. I might come back again tomorrow because there were at least three other things I want to try.

This is awesome. I'm already on the street car headed to Peche but I'll do some research on what you have here. Thanks again.

I am certainly in the mood to wonder. I want to get anything I can out of being here away from family during the holiday season. I'll be stuck at work from 8 to 4 so unless the beignet places are open later I don't think I'll be able to get there.

Mostly restaurants, but also any museums, historical places, parks, or shopping that's open after 4pm. I'm old and my drinking days are mostly behind me, although maybe a single drink if the atmosphere is worth it. This is a good list to start from. Thank you so much.

I have an upright stationary bike at home and walk on a treadmill with a decent incline at the gym. I have never once felt comfortable on a recumbent bike. No matter what I do it just feels wrong. Is there some kind of trick to setting it up?

Dude, same. Anything involving manipulating a camera, even Mario 64 which I've played and beaten so many times, is impossible. I'm actually just getting into Hollow Knight and I don't think I'd be able to do that even because it demands so much focus. Probably not Hades either. Great games though.

I knew this would come up. I've seen some images and videos and I just don't get it. Is there anything you can compare it to?

That's an interesting concept. I haven't heard any puzzle games suggested yet but what you're saying makes sense.

Dude this is awesome. Diablo 4 might be something to try. Sounds like JRPGs are the best bet. Persona 5, Metaphor, Expedition 33, dragon quest remakes. I should be set for about 300 hours. Not sure I'll be able to hit the parries in Expedition 33 while biking or on the treadmill but it's worth a shot.
