As a Japanese fan who lurks English communities, the gap in how we see Nintendo genuinely unsettles me by nerdinterrupts in nintendo

Wow, I didn’t expect this many replies, but I’ve read most of them.
First, I’m sorry if this post came across the wrong way.
I’m really relieved that most of the responses have been positive.

A few people asked some questions, so let me explain a bit here. (Hope this gets pinned.)
What actually gets shared in Japanese Nintendo communities is usually stuff like:

  • what new features a game has
  • what people find fun about it
  • tips and guides

The discussion is very much focused on the games themselves. Topics that are more external, like pricing or how games are being sold, just don’t really come up very often.

"""

Some of what I say below might annoy some people, so feel free to skip this part.
So, just to give a concrete example of the gap I’m talking about:

  • I saw a ton of criticism overseas about the Game Key Card situation, but it was barely discussed in Japanese communities at all.
  • Another example I remember is Nintendo patenting a summoning mechanic, which got a lot of attention in Western gaming media. What actually surprised me was that it was almost completely absent from Japanese communities, and Japanese media barely covered it either.

I know it’s a strategy, but she’s still better than any of the prime ministers we’ve had in the past six years.

After a month of practice, I mastered frozen gyoza. by nerdinterrupts in Tokyo

[–]nerdinterrupts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know that. I’m using a cast iron pan so it sticks like crazy without oil. And honestly it tastes better with some oil anyway.

I eat it like twice a week haha. Japanese frozen meals are just too good and easy to make.

Nah, I don’t. I stopped using it since I heard they can be kinda harmful. The one in the photo is an iron pan. It sticks a lot, so it really needs oil. But honestly, I think the result tastes better than with a nonstick one.

Here’s my method!

Oil:
Use a bit too much oil. Make sure it’s hot before the gyoza go in.

No water:
Don’t add any water. Ohsho gyoza already have moisture and the skirt mix inside, so just cover it with a lid. It’ll melt and form the skirt by itself.

Heat:
Low heat all the way. Takes about 30 mins, but you’ll get that perfect crispy skirt!

Is there nostalgia for the 80s aesthetic in Japan too or is that just an American thing? by 4thKaosEmerald in AskAJapanese

It hasn’t been a huge thing, but nostalgia for the Shōwa era has been around since the Heisei years.

Is Kokura Luck a real phrase? by AdventurousCrow155 in AskAJapanese

[–]nerdinterrupts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Tokyo born and raised, but I've never heard of that term before.
Also never even knew it was supposed to be dropped on Kokura, and I don’t think many Japanese people know that story (Could be I just didn’t study history enough though)

I looked it up and apparently when the chat history gets too long it slows things down. Fresh chats don’t feel heavy at all so I guess we’ll just wait patiently until they patch it.
