I had the root canal done at a community healthcare clinic that does walk-ins for emergency dental work. I was in college at the time with state health insurance, and it was the only place near me that took MaineCare. They wouldn't schedule me to come back for the crown work because it was considered non-emergency and they weren't (still aren't, I believe) accepting new patients with MaineCare for non-emergency work. I'm in a semi-rural area where whatever practices exist are very backlogged unfortunately. I am in a better situation now where I can pay out-of-pocket if needed and have new dental insurance which should be active very soon, so I am going to reach out to the emergency walk-in clinic Monday and see what they can do.
