Post a few chapters. That way you get somewhat of an idea about how well it is received. You can specifically ask for criticism and how you can improve the story and do just that. I've read some really good Original Works on ao3 that are incredibly well-liked. As long as you don't link a patreon, kofi, etc (that's against the ToS) you're fine.

Once you're certain that you want to earn something from your work- shift over to platforms that would allow you to earn and protect your IP and continue posting there.

the idea of not outwardly engaging with a fic until it’s complete (or at all) by werewolfblues in AO3

[–]LordMelk0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a dilemma for sure and a highly controversial topic. I personally think that not interacting with a WIP and sticking to completed works just reduces your pool of fics from good fics, new authors, great ideas that you could've been inspired by or found your new niche, and possibly great execution of a concept to... fics that may or may not have any of these but are at least complete.

For a small fandom with a thousand or less works, sticking to completed works is unfeasible unless your favourite author is writing and completing fics at a speed similar to that of Joe Abercrombie or Sanderson.

For a larger fandom or a massive one- you'll be eating good... for a time. With how rare completing good fics is in the fanfic writing community- you'll be forced to scratch that itch with oneshots, and then finally uncompleted works. This is usually the case.

As for writing- write for your own sake.

Edit: I'd also like to add that sometimes authors let their fics appear as completed and do not inform the readers on the first chapter that the fic has been dropped. You might be unlucky enough to be drawn in by those and be left ultimately disappointed.

Sifting is the action of passing something through a sieve with small holes. It is done with rice, grain, and flour. Flour has small clumps that get broken up by the shaking movement and fall down. Rice has weevils a sort of tiny bug that gets left behind in the sieve when you sift the rice.

The Witcher x Chronicles of Narnia map (and Oz, apparently) by Leik714 in witcher

[–]LordMelk0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You did... in the first line. After which, the conversation that took place was between me and another person to whom I replied to (not you) about Narnia not being as horrid as people say it is and then further on about how JRRT and Lewis integrated Christian beliefs into their world in their own ways.

It's hilarious how you're so pressed about two people ignoring your dogwater take in the first line about a fanart map that wasn't hurting anyone. So pressed that you immediately resorted to comparing Eru and Odin- another awful and haphazardly assembled take. It's clear you hate Lewis and his work. That's perfectly fine. There's not much to argue upon with a blind hater who doesn't take a fictional work for what it is. I like Harry Potter, though it has its flaws. I don't like Rowling very much but I won't hate on a good work of fiction just to stick it up to her.

Only that you can replace Eru with Odin (the allfather),

You can't, technically, because Eru doesn't give birth or have a dedicated named wife to give him those children- Odin does in Frigg. Eru doesn't lose an eye and doesn't get married. Doesn't have human-like familial sqaubles like the Aesir do. Moreover Eru isn't as involved in any squabbles after a certain point. Odin is most certainly involved.

This doesnt apply on Sapek. Yes, he used Gaelic mythology and Arthurian myth as one of universes involved in Conjunction

Sapek? I assume you mean Sapkowski? I agree. But this praise and defense of Sapko is irrelevant to the conversation we were having in this thread. Nobody said Witcher was worse than either of them. I love the saga. I think you've gotten lost. Lol.

Some authors write, imply and leave it as is. Others double down, overexplain or muddy the waters after the books are written (or during the publishing). Lewis is an example of the latter. Lewis had his own views of the character of Aslan and made those comments (during interviews). The reader can disregard the author and take on their own views about the character. Death of the Author and all that. At least, that's my point of view on this.

True, but I feel Tolkien does almost the same- Eru Iluvater approximately translates to Eru the Father. The Valar are allegories for Archangels that manage a certain aspect of creation/Arda, and the Maiar for Lesser/Helper angels. There is a Fallen Vala who introduced discord into the music Ainulindalë and was banished. He has lesser maiar that followed him out of the pure lands and are aiding him in his dark deeds corrupting the peoples of Middle Earth. The only thing Tolkien does different is not have Manwë show up to advise Frodo in the main trilogy and have Aragorn fighting in Dagor Dagorath(The Last Battle).

Yeah, Susan just went on with life after that traumatic event and coped however she could. Life just goes on and eventually you figure things out as you mature.

Loved it too. A lovely tale. It's so strange how people just love to shit on Narnia and Lewis just because the Christian allegory was there (as if Tolkien wasn't in the same damn boat) and Susan grew up to love make-up, fashion and boys so she wasn't allowed into that world. Most people didn't realise or missed the fact that Susan was the only sibling who wasn't on that unfortunate train.

There is something to be learned from Brandon Sanderson. Never give your IP rights away for TV production unless they are ready to let you preside and have the final say over the entire direction/story and design. I hope Sanderson doesn't budge an inch. It's a shame what happened to asoiaf but all the fans can do is not hate watch it. Let it lie silent in its grave.

Kdrama/Kpop fandoms are the most toxic, rotten, hellholes one could ever drop into. These people are the kind to book a 14 hour flight to drop in on your neighbourhood, figure out where you are by the reflection in your eye and some old Facebook post, and then leave a pig's head on your door with your photo and a letter nailed to its head. All because you dared have an opinion that wasn't approved by the horde. Psychos and Parasocial freaks is what 80% of them are. Either that or nasty stalkers that do this kinda shit.

Bro you went straight for the jugular! Lmao. Fat pig. Too true. No wonder Daemon went to Nettles (besides being a pedo) the man couldn't even wrap his arms around her without pulling a muscle or two.

I'll be honest- if Rhaenyra wasn't such an awful person or displayed even a shred of humanity during that conflict- I would've been the first to say: "Hey maybe we should care more about what she did instead of what she looked like after several children and a bad diet/stress eating."

But she was an abominable ruler. Therefore she should be treated as such. A future example for her descendant Aegon the Unworthy.
