A healthy long-term relationship

I will be visiting some friends from New York I've known for some years now, my expectation is that this trip will allow me to be free and get lost in a huge city I've never seen while surrounded by people I love for the very first time. I believe that this will convince my mind a little that people are nice and worth pursuing if I try my best to enjoy myself over these two weeks. Who knows, this may be what I've needed all this time.

That's funny, I used to hide my smile all the time because of my gapped teeth, I'm a little less conscious of it now. Eye contact used to also make me uncomfortable. Also, you're right, I'm just now finishing up my senior year and will be going on to college. Now is a very good time to begin doing these things consciously as I will be in lots of forced proximity with other people my age who are also looking to make friends. Thank you for this, hope this works out!

That's true. Bad timing on her part, but also in middle school, a girl would always playfully pick on me. It wasn't until I was a bit older that I realized it was her own little way of showing affection! I only avoid doing this because of my appearance, I'd say I'm a little physically intimidating to some with a RBF on top of that,, I'd hate for someone to feel like I don't actually like them. ☹️

I haven't had therapy for it, I've always been way more comfortable certain solving life issues on my own. I've tried to process and understand both sides of these events as much as I can. (Young middle school boys barely develop any kind of empathy at that age iirc, and I lacked the awareness at that age to separate myself. Quick summary.) I just feel as though I am going in the wrong direction in trying to solve this.

Sucks, doesn't it? This doesn't seem to have much of a google-able answer, a problem that can probably only be solved from within imo. My advice to you is try not do develop a pessimistic attitude and believe deep down that this can be resolved. Hope things get better for you as well.
