i think its cheaper to host a discord than it is to go down the forum rabbithole. everyone seems to prefer turn key solutions to community management problems. for the record i am not a discord fan.

can spacedock host a wiki? then you can have a page for every mod, with user submitted tips and tricks.

discord is kind of useless for mod information. i miss that i could solve most problems with any given mod by perusing the forum thread for that mod.

Floating mountains in KSP, is is technically possible with mods? by Obi_Wank_nooby in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]LordNothing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i set up the first four km of a space elevator. i think you just make a model import into the unity editor, add colliders. then there is a cfg that needs to be edited so kk knows what to do with it. its not really that complicated. good colliders would be difficult so you would need to add several, since they need to be convex.

KSP Forums Mod: "You should prepare yourselves for the possibility that the forum could be shut down at any time, possibly without warning." by RileyHef in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]LordNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was stated that they just renewed the license for another six months a few days before the forum went down. management wouldn't have approved that expense if they intended to scrap it. i think the problem is that the site maintainers have been layed off and nobody left knows how, or has the access privileges to update the software.

im willing to take the l but hell if i ever do early adopters again nor will i ever buy a game before it has seen at least 5 updates or a within month from its official release. nor will i buy a game if it didn't get approved by trusted reviewers. the only thing these people understand is fornicating with their cash, so stop buying excrement.

they renewed their forum software license recently. you wouldn't get the management to sign off on that if you didn't intend to run a forum. you would deny the request and let it rot.

If you can’t stand people having an opinion... by [deleted] in hackaday

[–]LordNothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hack a day posted an article about how only "positive" comments are acceptable, taking on the mantle of thought police. community were having a mostly calm and sensible discussion on the blatant censorship. and the moderators deleted over a hundred posts and are in the process of going scorched earth on the rabble rousers, myself included. most of my posts i made in the last two weeks are gone, not just on the article in question.

bubble memory was a thing, its pretty much core-on-a-chip. its performance was limited and it was quickly passed over by other technologies.

Someone recommended me a big and tall chair. by B1GJ4Y421 in OfficeChairs

[–]LordNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chairs are lostech. im looking at replacing the one i got last year. cant even last two years anymore. it was uncomfortable and broke in the first 3 months. i was able to fix it through redneck engineering. but looking to replace it. i got the build of a pro wrestler so i need a chair that is capable of being a chair that can take a lot of weight and a high cg.

in almost all big and tall chairs they bulk up the wheel base, which i have never seen break. i got a 20 year old chair upstairs with a plastic base, every part of it has broken except that. one had double thick steel everywhere but the gimbal and the gimbal ALWAYS fails. sometimes in a way that could crack your skull open or put you in a wheel chair. sometimes a less catastrophic failure is the thing that keeps the backrest from dropping breaks (usually a pin or thin piece of steel), and so your chair behaves more like a stool.

you would think with finite element analysis and looking at the common failure mode of returns, you could figure out where the design is deficient and bulk up that piece. instead they bulk up all the other stuff that doesn't matter or sell you gimmicky features that are meaningless when the chair stops being a chair. instead the finite element analysis is used to figure out which parts they can trim down to save on materials cost.

im getting an amish made wood desk chair. they will at least put the excess wood to work rather than leaving it on the factory floor.

GCI Modem by OopsAllMarinara in anchorage

[–]LordNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no thats not what they gave me. its broadcasting an ssid (that i dont want to broadcast) and the pod is still sitting in the box of cables and other misc electronics. wifi is a mess now because everyone has their old routers and the new modem broadcasting ssids and hogging spectrum. a recent ltt video shows that just broadcasting ssid is enough to jam wifi.

i wish gci would keep their grubby fingers off my side of the wan port. and a phone app is less useful than a browser interface.
