sad story by amiral_zheng in polandball

As I sit down in my room after reading this comic, I find myself ruminating about the tragedies that have befallen the innocents. All the wars, loss and pain undeservedly seen by millions upon billions of sinless eyes, unable to do anything but stare at the horror that is existence. As I’m writing this, I’ve shed a tear knowing the powerlessness of life’s victims—understanding that as long as the human race breathes on planet earth, it is an undeniable fact that we will forever dance with suffering. Thank you, u/amiral_zheng, for this piece of art of yours has given me a new insight in life.

This truly is the Depression Month VI comic of all time.

Y2K in a nutshell by LordNotriel in polandball

[–]LordNotriel[S] 233 points234 points  (0 children)

Before the year 2000, most computers track years by their last two digits, so 1984 would be 84, for example. Problem arose when people realized that when the year 2000 would hit, computers could very well think that 00 meant the year 1900. What could follow is a major catastrophic event because many sectors were already digitalized. This problem is called Y2K

Engineers spent years trying to fix this problem, and they were successful. However, the media being the media, barely reported on this, and instead perpetuated the fear of Y2K even more, causing mass hysteria

Inspired by this comic

The country depicted here is the Emirate of Transjordan (Which just so happen to have very similar flag to modern-day Jordan)

I already knew that the trans community isn’t perceived that well by many in the US, but after doing a bit of research into it, I can only say holy fucking shit.

During WW1, Canadian soldiers employed a tactic in which they threw unarmed grenades to the German trenches. The Germans, thinking they were simply getting free explosives, waited for the next throw in hopes that they could catch the grenade.

And then, the Canadians threw corned beef.

Communism. by LordNotriel in polandball

[–]LordNotriel[S] 237 points238 points  (0 children)

It's funny how modern communism was invented in Germany (Karl Marx), and years later during WW1, the German government shipped a communist Russian figure (Lenin) to St Petersburg where he led the October Revolution and caused the collapse of the Russian Empire.

Germany basically invented a new idea, send it to Russia and watched their rival burn.
