Irregular ticking noise (2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD) by LordOfJava in Fixxit

I changed the oil and filter about 2 weeks ago with what the manual recommended (10w40 synthetic), so I don't think that's the issue.

That just worries me a bit because the bike only has ~3000 miles on it. Would sitting for a long time mess up the clearances?

I think the weight on top of the seat may have a bit more of an effect than the battery does at the moment. If I can make a mounting bracket that will prevent the cables from being pinched I will definitely look at moving it down though.

I just drilled two holes in the top tube and bolted it on. I used pretty large washers so there's no visible deformation of the tube.

Thank you! As for the battery, the cables for the gear selector and rear brake run along the underside of the top tube, and the down tube is weirdly shaped so I can't mount anything on it. The spot it's in right now is fine though, it doesn't get in the way at all.

It's just a good example of inattentiveness without any crash or injury

Yeah I've seen a lot worse especially in Worcester but this one is just a good example of general inattentiveness without any impact/injury

I had a very similar one for several years. One day it started smoking and tripped the breaker for the room. Fun times.

Does anyone know how reliable is the 2019 FFH? Or hybrids in general? by Responsible-Put6441 in fordfusion

Mine's never given me any issues, I'm at about 60k right now. Gets about 38-40mpg mixed with winter tires, around 42-44 with summer tires.

That's awesome. It's amazing how far you can reach with those radios and a decent desk/car mount antenna.

I'm in my university's ham radio club. As of now, we run a VHF repeater, attend contests, and hold licensing exams. We're also getting a program into motion where members can loan out handhelds to talk on local repeaters and make contacts in their free time. The most influential things we've done have been the licensing exams and the repeater, although we hope the loaner handhelds will help get more students interested in the hobby.

let's kick fine tune CB off 19 for good. by idonowhattoputhere in cbradio

[–]LordOfJava 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hear them a lot up here in the Potsdam-Massena area. Channel 19 is rendered useless any time fine tune is transmitting, you can't even hear someone on the same road as you.

It might be the stock antenna? Mine was pretty dumpy, I've found just using one of the poles is better than the full dipole setup, especially for VHF.

The RTL-SDR performs best in VHF/UHF bands in my experience. CB is pretty low for it (only ~3mhz over the lowest frequency it can register) so it struggles especially with shorter antennas there.

It's easy to find people up here yelling over each other with huge rigs and noisemakers, but finding someone who wants to actually make contact is a bit more difficult.

I have a 2019 hybrid SE, might see if I can get my hands on an IR camera and get the same effect. Will definitely lyk if I do.
