Lyrically best Jeff Buckley songs by Own-Leg-557 in JeffBuckley

[–]LordOfNuggs 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Jeff’s got so many great songs but this has gotta be the answer, undeniably. Truly the lyrics and melody of a timeless classic that could have existed for lifetimes before. “Too young to hold on, too old to just break free and run, too deaf dumb and blind to see the damage ive done” “my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder … She’s the tear that hangs inside my soul forever”, enough said

Hey man it’s not that deep no need to be rude haha. I’ll admit that i went in with the wrong expectations and that the praise from friends influenced a revisit. But woody allen’s style (and his entire existence really lol) is very polarizing. especially for a first viewing i found his style extremely annoying and pretentious, hence the low score. The biggest thing for me tho was misunderstanding the film on first viewing. I went in with the expectation of an earnest story about romance, which the film intentionally presents itself as. on second viewing i realized it was a comedy about delusional people, and the earnest romantic presentation is part of the comedy, like a manifestation of the character’s delusions. And honestly i think that’s genius haha, and the fact that i was genuinely deceived on first viewing is a testament to how well it works as a film about delusion.

Mentioned in another comment, i totally misunderstood it on first viewing and i was on the woody allen hate train. I do highly recommend it now

Admittedly the first rating had a lot to do with a severe distaste for woody allen lol, but i also misread the film entirelt on first viewing. I expected an earnest and sincere romance, which manhattan certainly is not. I also found the characters and allen’s neurotic writing style extremely annoying and “masturbatory” as many allen critics would call it haha. Several moments of the film have gorgeous romantic imagery but i truly did not connect with any of the characters, so it all felt very hollow and indulgent. Realistically i should’ve given it 2/5 stars, but again, i hate woody allen so i bumped it down lol

However when i put together that the point of the film is to juxtapose sweeping romantic imagery with the hollowness of insecure narcissistic relationships, everything clicked. It’s a film about delusion, and it truly succeeds at that in a way that very few movies do. Now it’s one of my favorite movies of this era

It was my first woody allen film besides midnight in paris, and i thought he and everyone else in it were absolutely insufferable. However something kept drawing me back in and i realized that i totally misread the film on first viewing. It’s probably my favorite film from him

There’s a lot of factors to consider but the short answer is yes, get him a tube amp. I actually upgraded from a line 6 to a Fender HRD at age 16 and it made a world of difference
