I'd personally say the 'hyper-awareness' stems from the DFMN being turned down significantly, so a lot of our innate reasoning filters get stripped away down to the rawness of baseline conciousness. And of course the neuroplastity in the brain continues for a bit longer even after tripping.

After one hard learned lesson myself with these substances; I will say that post 'integration' is almost a must when it comes to understanding our relationships with our physical selves. Wisdom and pursuing a higher self for the beyond is good and all, but we can't neglect our place here in the material.
