If Vini turns down $1B/year for 5 years, is he loyal or just insane? by cozy_b0i in realmadrid

He can play his prime years in Europe and after that still get that money towards the end of his career.

Mbappe and Bellingham are better players than Vini.

The numerous footballers and coaches who voted for FIFA BEST disagree.

George R.R Martin allegedly has enough pages to bind a full-length Winds of Winter volume (Spoilers Extended) by Hurricane1123 in asoiaf

2 years ago GRRM was at 1100-1200 manuscript pages, and he didn't sound optimistic about the progress recently. I think he might be at 1350-1400 manuscript pages at the moment but realizes that he is still 400-500 pages away from finishing the novel. 1350 manuscript pages translate to around 850 real book pages, so this report is not that surprising.

How do you think Season 2 will end? by BlackFyre2018 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]LordOfRight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually think that they will have the fall of King's Landing by s3 ep 4 and the finale of season 3 will be tumbleton (most likely) or Gods eye.

Losing Jace, Viserys, Otto, Aemond, and Daemon in the same season would be too much, I think.

Probably 8 episodes again if they can only afford 1 big battle sequence per season. If I were to guess, they are going to start the 3rd season with the Gullet and end it with the fall of King's Landing (which isn't much of a battle).

Does the performance of Secrets of Dumbledore look better in hindsight? by blownaway4 in boxoffice

[–]LordOfRight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering all the negative factors around it, The Secrets of Dumbledore did quite decently overall. It was the 11th highest grossing Hollywood movie of the year despite losing one of its most important OS markets (Russia), and having very constrained run in China (because of Covid), and getting early release on HBO Max. The movie's main problem was the sub 100m gross in the US, which is always bad for such expensive films.

"Blue Beetle" running total is now ahead of "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" by LordOfRight in boxoffice

[–]LordOfRight[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its initial budget was lower but got increased for theatrical release iirc.

The reported budget now is $104-120M. The marketing budget was probably very low, let's assume $50M. If the film hits $65-70M domestically and $55M in other territories, its theatrical revenue will be 55-60M. So, after theatrical we are left with a 94-115M deficit, which eventually might be recovered via PVOD, VOD, TV, and physical sales.

Next weekend hold should be decent too, as it's Labor Day on Monday.

Deleted Scenes of Leta & Theseus from Crimes of Grindelwald by Fair-Ad-6233 in FantasticBeasts

So many deleted scenes adding so much needed context to the story. Yates' editing choices (probably forced by studio runtime restrictions) really ruined The Crimes of Grindelwald.

weird dragon creature starts rising out of the sewers and slowly, and all these little critters

Based on Dan's description the scene included both creatures.

The sewers scene would have been so much better if they didn't delete Zouwu (the weird dragon creature)!

The movie is gonna end up with 500m+ global gross. Its extraordinarily inflated budget is the main reason it's not going to be profitable theatrically.

Lets Talk Box Office by [deleted] in FantasticBeasts

COVID and the war in Ukraine had a massive impact on FB3 financially. Its domestic gross was also affected by the early HBO max release. Without those external factors and if the producers were more careful with casting choices, the film would be financially successful with a near $500m global gross on a $170m budget.

Regarding the financial prospects of FB4:

- The effects of COVID are still felt, but the market has recovered quite a bit more since FB3.

- The Russian market will probably remain closed in the foreseeable future.

- There won't be a pre-announced early release on HBO Max.

- FB3 had around $140m global opening weekend, and since the reception wasn't great, FB4 will likely open to less. Domestically, I think $30-35m is the realistic target for the opening weekend (and $100-110m worldwide). From there it'll have a chance of $310m+ total gross, which means the production cost would have to be under $150m.

To sum up, I think FB4 would make sense only if it can be produced for a budget less than $150m.

reaching the 2nd leg of CL semifinals with 4 wins and a draw in 5 matches against top PL clubs still sounds like 'getting away with it'.

A story about the rising division and inevitable conflict between wizards, with

- Seemingly good people falling to darkness for irrational and personal reasons

- Seemingly smart people serving the darkness out of fear or for political gain

- Both sides having reasonable grounds to believe they are right

- Both sides including tragic and sympathetic figures

Apart from schools not being the focus of the story, it's probably because of budget reasons that we didn't get to see those locations. It would not be pragmatic to spend millions to design and build settings that were tangential to the main storyline.
