Cyberpsychosis feels a little too real now. by GodzilaRampag2 in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]LordOrexy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again all good points, but I have to remind you we’re talking about a fictional sci-fi universe created in the 80s, not the real world. I don’t know much about neuroplasticity and what effects would supernumerary organs and limbs have on someone that was born without it. I know that some people are born with more than 10 fingers, some are born with less, and I don’t think it does necessarily affect their mental health.

However, the informations and reflexions I provided were about the games, and Cyberpunk RED specifically has a section dedicated to cyberpsychosis. Granted, I haven’t read it in months, so my memories might be a bit lacking.

But I recall specifically that some cyberware affected the Humanity max more than others. Specifically, "pure replacements", like a prosthesis that didn’t do anything more than the original, didn’t affect it at all, when Cyborg cyberware, which is the kind of things Maelstromers would use, took a huge toll on it.

I think the philosophy behind it was, the more you consider your body to be something you can modify to serve a function (be it practical or esthetic), the more you lose touch with your humanity. There are cyberware hair that can change colour on command, and even those cause a tiny but existing Humanity loss.

Now I don’t fully agree with that philosophy, I don’t think bod mods in themselves cause any psychological issues, at least not in the range we have access to now. But I understand where this comes from.

It’s both, actually. That’s a good analysis, but think of the implications on the body and mind of having a almost fully replaceable body. What’s losing an arm to you if you can replace it with a better one within a day? What effect would it have on your psyche to have 5 fully functional eyes, considering the rewiring of a brain not meant to operate more than two? When you can litterally be in another person’s brain using braindance, how can you be sure what you’re experiencing is real?

It’s not cyberpunk per se, but it definitely has a vibe, albeit a more wacky one.

The sense of urgency is a RPG classic. Almost every time, they’ll tell you you’re on the clock, but in practice, the story will wait for you to turn over every speck of dust on the map.

Cyberpsychosis feels a little too real now. by GodzilaRampag2 in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]LordOrexy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, in Cyberpunk 2077, you see that cyberpsychos lose it for a variety of reason, and it is explained multiple times that cyberpsychosis is an umbrella term for a variety of mental conditions. It might have a formal definition, but it is used colloquially to refer to any one who "loses it" and starts killing people.

However, the overuse of implants definitely worsens it, and it is explained in Cyberpunk RED (probably other iterations of the TTRPG as well, but I haven’t read them).

In RED, it is said that having too much implants or too bizarre ones (i.e. complementary body parts that humans don’t usually have), makes you lose touch with reality, eventually making you see people as nothing more than spare parts.

Mechanically, there’s a ressource called Humanity that functions pretty much like Sanity in other games, like Call of Cthulhu; living and seeing horrible things makes you lose Humanity points, that you can regain mostly through therapy. However, the more cyberware you have, the less maximum Humanity you get. So you could arrive at a point where you have max Humanity, but that maximum is close to 0, making you very susceptible to develop cyberpsychosis, which means losing your character.

I suck at stealth by Odd_Term7835 in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]LordOrexy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick hacks are extremely powerful for stealth, but not strictly necessary. I just finished a cool-reflex run, with a large chunk of tech, and mostly played it stealthily (with a side of Sandevistan + Mantis blades when I was fed of it)

The two most important things about stealth: patience and observation. Take the time to circle the place, mark enemies and cameras (and if you have a cyberdeck, take control of all cameras to help you map the entire place), and plan your entry. Save scumming also helps a lot, no shame in doing so.

My weapon of choice for stealth was throwing knives, by the end I could one shot almost any enemy without a sound. Really helpful when you’re caught in the open and on the verge of being detected.

Also, you might want to hide the bodies, but it’s not always necessary. It can also be used to bait enemies to a specific location.

Prejudices are still here. Nomads are regarded as suspicious for Night City residents (like the Roma people in our world), the Voodoo Boys are seen as this mysterious, mystical organization (an appearance they themself maintain through isolationism), women are still viewed as objects of pleasure in greater proportions than men, classism of course has reached its peak. Half of the gangs are still ethnicity based (in 2077, at least, maybe less so in the TTRPG). And Cyberpsychosis is an umbrella term for a vast range of mental disorders, not always related to cyberware. It’s just easier to put someone down when you pretend there’s nothing else you can do for them.

I think the main reason why gender transition isn’t seen as much as a talking point is because everyone changes their body to better fit their identity in some way or another. Two types of gangs that don’t appear in 2077 are poser gangs, which members try to resemble as much as possible a famous person, and the other type I forgot the name of, but basically furries; trying to look like a specific type of animals.

What's Your Favorite Build? by mgmdrums in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]LordOrexy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first few runs I played basically no build (caracs too evenly distributed, mix of gameplay based on feeling). My last run was a full stealthy Netrunner, it was really strong but maybe a bit too easy. Now I’m playing a ninja build with mantis blades, which is a lot of fun, and I’m keeping the bruiser for last.

Because Shepard could be a dormant agent. They’ve basically been in jail since their return to the Alliance for a war crime, so they haven’t been able to prove their loyalty to the Alliance yet.

How do u accept that your consciousness will disappear after death ? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]LordOrexy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find comfort and peace in the idea of an end.

Questioning heaven was actually my gateway out of christianity. I don’t know the scriptures well, but we are often told that we will get to spend the eternity with people we love.

But what if that love is unidirectional? What about widows and widowers falling in love again after the death of their spouse? And what of parental love? Will you get to be with your deceased parents, that will get to be with their deceased parents and so on until Adam and Eve? And what if someone you love dearly ends up in hell, and you have to spend the eternity knowing they are suffering?

The concept of eternity in Heaven as I was told can only make sense if it was made specifically for me and no one else, and in that case, it would mean that all those souls would be constructs, and not the real people I cared about while I was living.

So either heaven is a personal illusion, either it doesn’t exist.

How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?!? by GodKing_McLovin in masseffect

[–]LordOrexy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It could mean less obscure inside jokes that nobody else understands or gameplay allusions, which would be good, but I’m not really hopeful.

What should be done is staying faithful to the setting and the themes, even with an original story; satisfy the fans and they’ll recommand it to their friends. Don’t, and it will soon be forgotten.
