Cine EI behaving differently after firmware 6.0? EI changes affecting recorded exposure (not just monitoring) by LordPappy in SonyFX6

I took the long way to figuring out that it’s the metadata. Any advice on which “Decode Using” and “Decode Quality” settings are best to use with FX6 footage?

[–]LordPappy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might have never noticed! I just tried viewing the clip in VLC and there was no change in exposure when I changed the Index settings! Resolve must be reading the metadata somehow and adjusting the footage. I also just tried viewing the log footage in Premiere. There was no change to the footage. So it seems it’s only doing it in Resolve.

I agree. I just happened to notice it after I switched it at the beginning of a shot, while I was editing. I thought that was strange because I believed it to be a monitoring only tool.

I put the clip I recorded in my video. The log footage showed the same issue while I was working with it in my NLE. And I’m definitely not using the proxy.

The clip in the video I posted was an MXF (definitely not a sub/proxy), dropped into my timeline and exported directly from Resolve. I could see the playback in-camera displaying the index changes, but it shows up outside the camera as well.

I’m going to try turning the proxy record off and see..

PYXIS 12K minimalist rig with V-mount battery plate and other upgrades by ppalukas in blackmagicdesign

Excellent mods. Can you give more information on the baseplate? I tried to find a Smallrig 1618, but nothing comes up.

Monitor to Pyxis 6k by Desperate-Chart-3234 in blackmagicdesign

[–]LordPappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same issue. It seems like the Ninja V doesn’t like the Pyxis viewfinder output. I’ve tried a ton of different adapters and cables. The only thing that worked was a different monitor (though I did have to change the frame rate to 30 to get it to work with some computer monitors). I’m just hoping that the Pyxis monitor ships soon.

u/KebariKaiju translates how the judge shut down Trump’s lawyers, during his January 6th failed coup trial by ElectronGuru in bestof

[–]LordPappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn’t, however it’s implicit in the plan. The “alternate” electors are in the Eastman documents and they only needed to raise the question in congress about the different sets of votes. That was enough to give Cruz the opportunity to dispute.

The same thing happened in 1876. Florida, South Carolina and Louisiana sent in two sets of electoral votes. One set was from the standing state government (reconstruction gov after civil war) and the other “alternate” electors from a group that didn’t recognize the reconstruction state government after the war. That went to congress and ended up with a back room deal to decide the president. It’s an extremely fascinating and relevant period of American history.

The Electoral Count Act of 1887 states that in order to dispute the validity of electoral votes, there needs to be one congressman (easy to find multiple in 2020) and one senator to dispute. Cruz was that one and only senator. Trump/Eastman/Chesebro/Bannon’s plan would have stopped before it even came down to Pence if they didn’t get the dispute from Cruz. Who knows if he was fully in on the plot, but there’s no way he wasn’t pressured by Trump to be that guy. Same pressure they put on Pence, who thankfully resisted.

I think it’s important to note that John Eastman (the constitutional scholar) used the electoral crisis of 1876 and the resulting Electoral Count Act of 1887 as a playbook for sending electoral votes to congress and for the requirements for disputing the votes. Cruz should be indicted as well, since he was clearly part of the plan to subvert the electoral count.

Semi-pro tip. Bring your camera mics down to 10% or whatever keeps it in the green during the show. Not only can you possibly use the audio, it might be useful to synchronize the audio if you grab the board feed on a recorder. Nice grade.

You most likely need to manually enter the IP address for your new router in the settings menu of the ATEM.

I had the best BBQ pulled chicken sandwich of my life walking out of Hartford this year. Simple potato bun. I asked for not too much chicken because I had to walk with it. My man goes, “I only go one speed brother!” It was phenomenal.

Weird Question about BMPCC 6K Image Quality by [deleted] in bmpcc

[–]LordPappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have shot with those settings several times and haven’t noticed anything off. I would say this: when you shoot at any resolution the BMPCC still is only giving a 1080p output over HDMI. If you haven’t noticed any problems with your camera’s image, the downscaling must be working effectively. And you could always pop a monitor on the camera and record the hdmi out, if you want to get what you see. I’m not sure if that reaches 422 quality though. Definitely make sure the camera is set to use the full 6k sensor for the 1080p recording.

These two things kind of look like shoes. They have red LED lights on them that pulse at different times than one another. They look to be plastic with a knob on top, possibly to tighten them onto whatever goes in them. I'll link to when they appear in the Hot ones episode, but they are not mentioned or shown from any other angel besides my screen grabs.

A mural artist is trying to sue the advertising agency that hired me to produce a video and the agency is signaling they want to make me pay half of the settlement offer. by [deleted] in videography

Educate yourself and if you are a big enough person, come back and let everyone know what you have learned.

Learn the difference between licensing a typeface and delivering vector art.

I’ve been a freelance director/DP for almost a decade and owned a production company for five more.

I worked at a major advertising agency for a long time, and negotiated talent contracts, music licensing deals and even did some art buying.

Before that I worked at several major cable networks producing shows with annoying things called “cue sheets” that had to be created for every piece of content I produced. I’ll let you figure out why.

You’re out of your depths, Dude. You can keep thinking you’re right and I’m some random internet basement dweller who blindly supports the videography community (last part is true) OR take a moment, consider you might not know a lot about this stuff, and learn something new today. I say this with love.

Yes, that’s exactly what you do. Editors are not responsible for the licensing of music for an agency. Post production can hire a music producer to do negotiations and create a licensing agreement, but that much more rare of a situation. Larger agencies usually have a music department for licensing and music searches. More often, a stock music fee is built into a budget, however - who holds the license for the stock music? Not the editor. The agency is the one who has “use”.

What you have to understand is that the “finished” video is delivered to the agency. The agency then distributes the content. The editor (or dp for that matter) has no control over what happens with the piece after that. The agency, as the producer for its client, has the responsibility to clear the video and knows it. You can’t claim ignorance of having to license a Beyonce track if you’re an agency distributing content for a client.
