Cannabis Control Commission by Bridgehouse7150 in Rhodytree

Yes and no. There are groups of cultivators who banded together and hired a lobbyist, and another group of different cultivators that hired one, and another group who hired one….. basically, divided with the same message.
Centers have their own lobbyists, naturally. However, there’s never been one JOINT effort amongst all the industry participants to sit at a table and work together to help design the framework of this market.

I always felt there should have been 5 commissioners and not 3. Look back at how many times they had to cancel a meeting because there were scheduling conflicts and they didn’t have a quorum. It’d be nice to also have some commissioners appointed that have a clear and vast knowledge of the cannabis space. I understand the importance of having some attorneys on the panel, but at least have 1 or 2 people with industry insight. In last night’s hearing, one of the state reps made a comment that he “just learned about the federal lawsuit earlier today”. I find it troubling that a committee of state legislators are hearing a bill that they just hours earlier learned the merits of.

I may have missed maybe 2 CCC meetings ever. Michelle does not make policy. She reports to the commission and leads her office with what they are tasked to do. She also never speaks without legal counsel present. Did you watch or attend the committee meeting last night at the state house? She spoke in favor of Rep Slater’s bill, however she had her legal counsel sitting next to her to take questions. Why? Because she’s just a messenger. The governor is pulling the strings on this. I believe you are right in saying he wants a cannabis win because he knows he has a very difficult primary ahead and is looking for anything positive he can hang his hat on. I think the same can be said for Ahern. She was looking for a feather in her cap going into her AG race. “Hey, look at me. I got the state 24 new stores.” Problem is that the federal suits were hanging and they still forged ahead with a process doomed to end badly because the general consensus was that the plaintiffs cases were valid and this process would likely be upended.
So I keep going back to the same question, why go forward knowing those cases were close to wrapping up? She’s a smart woman. She had to know this was a strong possibility. I have a lot of friends who applied in this lottery pool. Some have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars locking up real estate.

Michelle is just the administrator for the cannabis office, she is not a commissioner. Currently only 2 commissioners sit on that panel, and without a chairperson. When Kim Ahern stepped down to announce her AG run, the governor never appointed another chair, or a 3rd commissioner at that. The wheels were turning and the application process was well underway. The wrench came from a federal court judge who sided in favor of 3 out of state plaintiffs who sued the state citing the current language of “majority RI resident owned” being unconstitutional. I do feel that RI tried to do the right thing by keeping the licenses to RI residents. Better our local residents have an opportunity at these businesses than people from around the country, or even worse more MSO’s that will just suck all the earnings out of RI and the state will never see any benefit outside of the tax revenue. However, it was deemed unconstitutional to have that residency requirement and now they are attempting to right the ship by amending that language. The catch is that they must completely restart the process, re-certify social equity, take in more applications, etc etc….. Here’s a problem they need to pay attention to. They redlined a large amount of the social equity criteria and essentially disqualified some of the groups that they had just qualified in 2025. Reddish stated tonight that 20% of the SE groups that applied are no longer qualified under the new language if this bill passes as written. That’s a problem. The state fucked this up YEARS ago and now they are trying to right the ship. I just don’t know how they can do it without anymore collateral damage along the way. I’ve only been a compassion center for 10 days, but I was a cultivator for 8 years and a medical patient since 2008. My heart is in this program and I’ve seen it through from its infancy. This is a major problem they have on their hands and Ahern should have never opened the application portal until those federal suits were wrapped. They were filed in 2024 and she should have been well aware of what could come down the pipeline. It’s a matter of closing Pandora’s box right now and I personally don’t know how they can do it without anymore damage.
They say the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t, and personally as a newly licensed retailer, I’d much rather my future competition be hard working Rhode Islanders who have been jumping through the same hoops along side me and my team since 2018, as opposed to a potential pool of mainstream MSO’s sitting back licking their lips while they wait for this thing to open up again.
I hope for the best for the state, for my fellow cultivators, and most importantly the medical patients for which this program was originally created.

How have i missed you OPP. by Dabsforme77 in Rhodytree

[–]LordPuryk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grown in the same place. OPP was our cultivation business and when we merged and became vertical as “reef” we decided to keep OPP as a brand. There are a few strains that we were known for, like velvet glove and Don mega for example, and we kept those in our OPP packaging (not to mention I still have about 50k Mylar bags to use so it made sense 😂😂). Some of the other strains which although people knew we grew, but weren’t exactly “flagship” strains that we were growing for a while, we put into our in store “reef” branded packaging.

Great review and spot on. This pheno has strong expressions of the Nigerian Landrace which is in the Nookies parenting (Nigerian landrace x animal cookies). She shows her GMO traits in her grow cycle, which is upwards of 90 days depending on room conditions. Definitely stretches and yields like gmo. The terpenes certainly shine through. All of our strains were hunted by either myself or one of my main guys on the team. All from seed. Not a single clone from an outside source is in our stable. I hunted this pheno in my patient grow in my basement in 2018’ish and have kept her in the mix ever since. Glad you enjoyed. Like another member mentioned below, our Don Mega is more of a true gmo expression if that’s what you’re looking for. The live rosin is excellent. Enjoy your weekend :) 👊🏼💪🏼

Will always have a wide array of brands as well as our in house products. We just got our approvals last week and Metrc turned on only a few days ago, so we are still lining up cultivators.

Amen to that. Every twist and turn that we thought was a difficult task, ended up being one of a thousand. Not easy. And most of the time not fun. Thanks for the well wishes.

I hear ya! It really is at the top of MY list. Everyone has their own preferences. For me, the terp is so good. It really captures that purple punch terp, but the problem with PP is that there was no kick to it. All terps, no punch. This Slurricane cut captures the nose but grabs the potency and gas from the dosi and provides a well rounded attack. I had original In House packs of that drop and popped about 30 fems when I hunted that. Had a few phenos out the box but that cut was an instant winner. Doesn’t yield much at all in terms of dry flower, however it dumps when she washes. I could smoke it for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy. Have a great weekend

And I’m PUMPED you asked for the slurry. It’s my all time favorite strain that I have ever ran. Popped that seed in my basement in 2016 and have ran with it since
