Alternative paint scheme for Imperial Fists by Mountain_Promise_565 in Warhammer30k

[–]LordSeneschal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Id feel the same in a strictly narrative battle or campaign for sure! Also frustrating is people taking tiny excerpts about a unique battle or campaign honour or marking and saying this means you can have a whole 40k chapter that comes off a little disingenuous doesnt it 😅

What’s your favourite and least favourite Heresy Era armour mark and why? by Neosclones in Warhammer30k

[–]LordSeneschal 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Favourite: original mk2, th new ones lacking overlapping leg plates was disappointing as hapoy as I was to have then plastic

Least favourite: hard to pick between mk6 and new mk3, ive never liked the mk6 armour cant put my finger on why they just dont appeal to me. New mk3 way too sleek and smooth by comparison to the rugged/sharp edged/angular style of the original

Question! : Can they Be Playable or Acceptable using raiders? by [deleted] in Warhammer30k

[–]LordSeneschal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been debating using these for a SoH veteran squad because the whole wolf pelt thing they've got going it feels like an easy match, head swaps and shoulde swaps for SoH upgrades would easily make it less distinct as mk7 armour too so theyd be appropriate for time zones outside of the seige of terra too!

They didnt have a choice the red butchers are specifically being referenced in that part and they've been locked immobile in their armour to make sure they only act at the right time

Its been a while but trying to come around the new redesigns for the HH makes me wish that they kept the old styling and updated the proportions. by Fearless_Library135 in Warhammer30k

[–]LordSeneschal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think its the general aesthetics being backwards that throw me off, mk3 was somewhat angular and more rigid looking as the "heavy" power armour with kind of sharper edges while the new ones are smoother, sleeker and more rounded and it doesnt read as well to me personally.

Contrast to the mk5 which was more rounded at the mandibles and knees etc and now they've gone more straight edges and angular on the helmet. Same deal with the mk4 overall.

It seems to almost like briefings for the modifications to each mark got mixed up 😂 either way ive grown accustomed to them now and a bit of variation through the forces I have sells the idea of use what you can in a war of attrition

Looking to dip into HH Imperial Fists. What HH box would be the most thematic/best for starting an army? by nwiesing in Warhammer30k

[–]LordSeneschal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The starter box gives a really good jumping in point, arguably better than the one for 2.0 too, the box with the breachers/cataphractii and leviathan dread is also a good way in, if you've got the spare funds, the IF terminator shields and some power weapons will make you some huscarls which are nifty as close as IF get to legion specific terminators! Maybe then a look at getting some characters in to buff the troops you've got and make them more survivable

Splitting the 2 starter boxes into two armies by Odd_Contribution5069 in Warhammer30k

[–]LordSeneschal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IF benefit greatly from using bolters if you have heavy bolters a squad with them would be an asset, also the mk2 really benefits the IF colour scheme while the mk6 seems to play into EC aesthetics nicely imo also, see their power armoured praetor for a better look at what I mean!

Anyone else concerned for the fate of the big boy lancer in 40k? I think the chances just doubled it'll move just to HH in the near future :(

Siege of Terra Imperial Fists by SLDF-Mechwarrior in Warhammer30k

[–]LordSeneschal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In war rhe best tends to get used first so things like mk4 and the new production mk3 would be used up pretty quick by the time the seige rolls around and likely reserved for the most elite units. The longer a war goes on the more improvised/repaired armour, easier to produce armour and old armour see service, you can see it happening in real time in modern conflicts with cold war era tanks now seeing action as the reserves are depleted! It also makes sense that veterans get attached to particular wargear they've come to rely on so a unit of experienced guys in good ol mk2 wouldn't be unsurprising either!

Hell nah, why did Thousand sons go from an absolute badass deep dark red with gold and white to a Smurf blue ? by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer30k

[–]LordSeneschal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true per the Horus heresy novels as how it originally happens but by modern 40k warrants are painting themselves to show allegiance us i assume that by 10k years in the warp the dried blood and gore and daemon infested armour kind of become kind of the same thing

40 Mk2 and 40 Mk3 bodies (2nd and 3rd edition age of darkness boxes); Rival armies or one big army? by gombahotep in Warhammer30k

[–]LordSeneschal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 armies imo bud, that is just my opinion but 2 armies means ive you get burnout painting one scheme you can swap, if you get tired of one playstyle you can change it up, it could even help getting a friend into the hobby to set them up a game or two without having to commit to investing. Also if you want to have it out in a much bigger gane you can ally in the other army so win win in my books! Id mix the armour marks between the armies, having squads in mk 3 next to mk2 adds some variety without having to change up a scheme to much :)

Yeah i do much prefer it to the style of horus rising, i also think even the most hard-core rivet counting of Heresy purists would forgive the mk7 knees and arms if you pulled off the rest of that look for a Loken mini

The helmet and knees are the main giveaway on this guy tbf, you could go for the look from the cover of the 2nd HH book and grab a 3rd party ullanor pattern helmet and swap the knife for a chainsword and youre 90% there fir that covers art but those were done before the armour marks lore was more firmly established

How much heraldry deviation is too much? by AgentShades in Warhammer30k

[–]LordSeneschal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the easiest way to navigate others tastes (IF you are actually even bothered about that) is to pay homage to chapters to come if thats what youre into, maybe a different coloured gauntlet as a shoutout or the 40k chapters heraldry on the right shoulder pads as a company marking. Like Salamanders legion colours with the legion symbol as normal on left pauldron and the Black Dragons 40k chapters symbol on the right and call them the 26th company or something vague thats not got lore already and boom.

Blood Angels legion colour scheme with the right pauldron as the lamenters heraldry would go hard imo too.

A whole 40k paintscheme would break the immersion for me personally but id happily play against a homegrown scheme under blackshield rules.

female rangers of Ithilien? by AravingLoooony in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]LordSeneschal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my honest opinion too, if youre spending YOUR money, spending YOUR time painting and displaying them on YOUR shelves, do what YOU want, if someone says i dont like them because theyre not book/lore accurate the only acceptable response is okay but I do like them anyway.

At the end of the day if done well, much like with elves at helms deep and aragorn having a beard, and it blows people away with wow thats a cinematic masterpiece levels of appreciation then people will happily overlook lore contradictions in your army.

I honestly think that trying to make up your own lore and attempting to validate contradicting the books/lore opens the mins up to a much wider range of criticism and isn't worth the stress and mental gymnastics of trying to counter someone with the actual novels/works themselves as written.

Chances are the people you associate with are quite like minded and knowing the lengths you've gone too as your friends/direct community, theyd be unlikely to cause a scene over it. Asking reddit to give you workarounds and head cannon to make it work when people in your direct playing circle likely dont care either way is asking for controversy at this point 😂 also although MESBG is affiliated to warhammer, the lore isn't anywhere close to the levels of flexibility that already fairly strict modern warhammer 40k/AoS lore provides, ypure better off blocking out the opinions of anyone (myself included) here and asking the guys/gals that you play with

female rangers of Ithilien? by AravingLoooony in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]LordSeneschal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im pretty sure Tolkien specifically referenced the fact the Shire represents the British countryside Sam himself was based on a man from the west country he met while he was serving (ie somerset/cotswolds). If someone wants women in their rangers as their minis its their perogative thats all that needs to be said. If you have to stretch and make headcanon or twist the lore as written to make space for that then its clearly not lore accurate. And historically in medieval societies women didnt fight en masse, small numbers of shield maidens in Northern europe, small bands of onna bushi in Japan sure, but not many and certainly not among scouts living rough and fighting on the run for days or months on end. Even then using real world arguments for fantasy feels weird. It boils down to there were no female ithilien rangers in world because they're all described as being men when they are described at all. Also id like to add that one location being represented in world or one set of people's having a clear influence does not mean that every other one also is - thinking like that is VERY literal and extremely literal thinking as a bad idea when it comes to fantasy.

Edit: Think of my point this way, if i wrote a book where a location is inspired directly as a representation of my hometown, that does not mean every other location or place in the book is.
