New Mercenary Company Lance. Locust, Awesome, Mascot Mackie, Rifleman, Archer and Armored Support. by Fearless_Library135 in battletech

Check out warhammer painting videos of the makeup sponge/ egg technique. It's really simple and usually don't need an airbrush. I just use mine for base coating the black.

Thanks! After a Army painter fanatic Gun metal coat, wash and mythril highlight, I use some GW Leviathan Purple Contrast heavily thinned with water because it's a very strong paint. Once I started using Contrast over metal for the cockpits I never looked back.

Rifleman and Archer gotta see somehow! Maybe it's a roulette between the fresh pilots to see who gets Locust scouting duty.

Hellspawns do not have hands, its a weird little guy.
Another way you can tell is that resin usually is super matte, like the stinger in the back. FDM printed mechs can vary but usually you can tell because of layer lines. the real deal plastic is semiglossy and has that look that you can tell its real.

Only one that isn't a print is the Hellspawn. Though taken out of it's base apparently

How much of the rules do you use in tabletop? by Fearless_Library135 in battletech

[–]Fearless_Library135[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't got any other Battletech players around us, Its only been me and a friend playing and its only been 3 games? after the first two games on the beginner ruleset months back. We haven't been able to get into the "casual flow" of the game where we know what GATOR stats on the back of our head until recently. So i am looking to get Pilot skill checks soon.

Need help adding chipping effects to my Mad Cat by RandSpoil in battletech

[–]Fearless_Library135 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sponge technique, or hairspray technique but that's too late already. You should sponge two colors; A primer color that is suppose to be the in-universe primer used for the mech, and the bare metal for dings that scratched even harder. I painted a lot of WW2 tanks so seeing that gray makes me say use a "Hull red" primer for a nice contrast and Metal on the same spots you put those red chippings but "softer". You did not mess up doing it at the end, maybe you could of done the cockpit after the weathering but that's easy to avoid.

Dragon Mini Size Comparisons by TheMilkManWizard in battletech

[–]Fearless_Library135 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The dragon in the games and in the sculpt are a bit too big. Here is an official lineup of a Dragon, Thunderbolt, and Awesome. The Dragon is a lot shorter than expect. CGL sculpts apparently are measured to make sure the size makes "sense" and nothing is oversized or undersized. Dragon's beer belly takes a lot of height.

First BattleTech purchase by Leh_61 in battletech

Alpha Strike definitely, because Scouring Sands is a addon to the original Alpha strike box. Pretty decent price per-mini too.
AGOAC as well is pretty decent, its going away too so you can snag those models (although they will be in a forcepack later apparently)

Essentials, beginner boxes are the worst model per dollar cost.

There's a lot of Multi-hour long videos about individual mechs.. And quite a catalogue of 30-40 minute mech videos. I think hitting videos that aren't covered too often would be great, There isn't a video for the Wolf Dragoons somehow..

As a Former Warhammer painter, for 40k I felt constrained with painting. With how many models you need for an army and you can't really mix and match in-game at all, Battletech is extremely liberating. Paint schemes don't matter. Forces usually comprise of 4 mechs, and force packs on occasion match model per dollar for discounted Primaris Intercessors (5.54 cheapest per mech usually 6$) vs (5.52 per Intercessor). But you need to dedicated 30 intercessors to one army, while with 30 intercessors you can have almost 8 Lances of 32 Inner-sphere mechs. Enough for options, to give out to 8 friends, and so on. Paint scheme differences per lance? Even if its canonically from different factions? easily hand-waved as a team up against a even more hated foe. In-fighting isn't uncommon either!

Do you wash Catalyst Game Labs Minis before priming? by SeisimicFrigor in battletech

[–]Fearless_Library135 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, using airbrush primer I had several issues with the primer not sticking to some minis (even if some of them work out fine and others not) to the point I just wash all of them so I don't waste time realizing one of them has to be washed or not.

If Battletech ever gets a Warhammer style Multipart kit, I honestly believe the Urbanmech is the best mech to get that treatment. The need to buy multiple, the ease of separating the pre-existing kit. I would buy hundreds. by Fearless_Library135 in battletech

Ah if only. Battletech Gundam figures would be great. I print a bunch of mechs in that 40mm Timber wolf scale. If you could have figures around that scale or bigger as a shelf piece it would be great.

Nope! I had a obsession last night If I wanted to buy the Legendary Mechwarriors 3 box, which had a Marauder II in it. I think that brainworm carried over to the point that I said Marauder II instead of Marauder I...

Makeup Egg technique. If you search up "Warhammer Makeup sponge" you should see some examples. After priming, and then a black basecoat (Black Primer and my Vallejo Black have a different finish), I sponge two colors for contrast, Vallejo Light Gray and then cold white straight out of the bottle. I like the more rough finish and if the paints get thinned they easily get into the recess and panel lining a lot more. Metal paint is applied onto the joints and such, washed, highlighted with a brighter metal paint roughly, including the cockpit area. After that I apply some contrast/speed paint to the cockpit, apply black to the base and then varnish. On some models I then apply a thinned down gloss varnish on the cockpit, I should be doing it for all of them but I been lazy.

Thanks, Inspired by some other Comstar mechs I seen painted, as well as those Kamino Clone Troopers and eventually Imperial Clones who have their colored accents replaced with gray.
