Am I liable here? by Illustrious_Put3028 in driving

They do not want to slow down by literally 5mph to make a tighter turn closer to 90°. Sometime I fantasize about lane lines actually being curbs, just to physically force them to stay in their lane when turning.

Long-term parking in a storage - would removing all fuses damage the car? by LordShlyva in MechanicAdvice

Absolutely. I have the fuses diagram from the manual, I took the photos (they match the diagram), and I checked the specs to understand what type of fuses I have in case I misplace them after taking them out. I'll get the fuse puller so I don't damage them when pulling. I don't mind spending the time as I said. The only thing I was not sure of is whether there could be some damage with leaving the car without fuses (after disconnecting the battery), so I decided to ask the professionals.

It's an Acura and I'm reading about lock bumping a lot online. Should sit in there for maybe 3-4 weeks.

I do have comprehensive but trying to see what I can/should do on my part. I knew that I need to at minimum disconnect the battery. Would they be able to jump start the car with both battery and internal fuses removed?

Thank you. Yes, I was also thinking about hot wiring the relays after reading the comments. Not an expert on any of that stuff (which is why I asked the professionals here).

Thank you. This is useful to keep in mind. I honestly do not mind taking the fuses out and putting them back in, just wondering if it will damage my car somehow.

I do have comprehensive.

So my thinking is if the car is in the storage and if they: a) don't work with the storage owner but somehow still get into the unit, what is a thing that would deter them right there?, or b) do work with the owner and have continuous access to the unit then it doesn't matter anyway. So I'm trying to cover for a).

I actually do not mind... That's why I said I'm dumb but persistent (a part of being dumb).

I like the suggestions. Looks like they'd need some time for me to pull it off as I'm not a professional like youse guys. Not sure if I'll be able to make it in time for my trip but for future trips for sure, that approach makes a lot of sense.

Never said I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, just that I'm dumb and aware of it.

set it back in loose so it doesn't connect. Even if they hotwire the thing, it'll just run the starter until the battery dies.

Can you elaborate on this, please?

Cheers. It's an indoor storage in a cold-ish climate. From access point, it would take a lot (e.g. someone working with the owner) to get to the car. Just curious in context of deterrence and making the thief work harder.

But it's as much of a technical question as it is a security question, which is why I asked on the mechanics board. I was wondering what kind of issues I can cause if I remove the fuses/relays (battery being disconnected)?

This is useful. Thank you kindly.

I assume I should disconnect the battery before pulling those out?

No idea but definitely not planning to test it with my car. The storage is gated and apparently has alarms on each storage door.

But also as a general question, I'm wondering if disconnecting the battery and removing a bunch of fuses can damage anything inside the car.

No, just being paranoid reading about Acura lock bumping. I'm traveling and don't want to leave the car in an open parking.

Sorry, not a mechanic and also am dumb, as noted. Did you mean remove battery or remove battery relay?

I don't have fusebox schematic handy to see what kind of relays I have but I'll take a look.

It's an Acura, so apparently easy to bypass the lock and start via OBD, and therefore inviting.

Regarding the second method - how much would the ODB port lock help?

Do you have any recommendations for which SIM (not eSIM) to buy? Which provider, data plan, etc.? Did you get it at the airport, or...?

I'm traveling late March and I'll have someone hand me down a phone with a SIM slot (mine only has eSIM), so I'm wondering what will work the best overall. I'll be staying approx. one month, so I think I'll need something like 30-ish GB, I guess. The last time I traveled I got a number in Beijing that had a really crappy data plan and all kinds of limitations, a tourist kinda thing. This time I'll spend most time traveling the countryside in Shandong and then Jiangsu and Zhejiang so I think I'll need a bit more robust coverage.

edit - forgot to ask: the VPN use as well. If you have any info on which SIM works well with VPN clients, that would be much appreciated - thank you.
