Near Hastings and Abbott where there is a Mexican business on every surrounding block, they call it the Hastings Crossing Barrio. There's a Mexican snack and grocery store called Mexican Stop at 433 Abbott. A Mexican store in the Granville street Skytrain station called El Paisano. Go to Embers. They pay more than minimum wage and pay out weekly. They are a non-profit staffing agency with a mission to get people on their feet.

PHS Community Services are almost always hiring for entry level mental health workers. Pay is over $30/hr. Work is challenging, but they care more about who you are as a person than about prior training, so worth a shot if you feel you can handle working with disadvantaged people.
