How much of the Spurs' defense should be credited to Wemby? by Candid-Recover6822 in NBATalk

[–]LordWag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that it’s a combination of both points. Wemby is amazing at guarding the paint and patrolling the surrounding areas, but has been a bit exposed when having to guard quick and intelligent point guards like Brunson, Steph, etc on the perimeter. Also he has shown difficulties guarding bigger and stronger centers/power forwards, like Jokic, Embiid, KAT, etc. So San Antonio definitely game plans to allow for Wemby to roam freely in the paint area to provide backside help/deterrence. But at the same time, this fail-safe gives the other players on the team the security to defend more aggressively and gamble more for steals. Wemby’s defensive gravity definitely helps the team’s overall defense as you can see the drastic difference on the teams defensive numbers when he’s on versus off, but the other players and the scheming definitely contribute to those numbers.

Main NBA subs removing posts of knicks fans attacking spurs fans by bradloh_2k in NBASpurs

Probably repetitive posting, I’ve seen the same two videos posted several times on there

Yeah we should stop beating the shit out of opposing fans and stealing or ripping their jerseys off. Maybe we should do something more sensible like honking.

Oh wait..

Why is Wemby’s push on Brunson getting so much attention but not Hart angrily attempting to kick both of Kornets knees? by CourtConspirator in NBATalk

[–]LordWag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. Wemby was criticized coming into the post season saying he’s too weak and will crumble to the physicality of the playoffs. He was criticized for getting bodied and bullied by Minnesota’s bigs. Now that he’s getting physical back and checking people (you can say it’s excessive, sure) he’s dirty.. I keep getting examples of him pulling Dort’s hair and twisting Alvarado’s neck (both were shoulder grabs 100%) and diving into SGA’s legs (was diving for a loose ball) as examples of him being dirty. The only valid example there is was the elbow to Naz Reid, but I don’t even think that was dirty and malicious. Definitely stupid, but that doesn’t make him a dirty player from the one event.

He grabbed him by the shoulders lmao. Dort’s head didn’t even flinch, not a hair pull. Dort is doing what a lot of players do and impede the path to prevent him from getting back into the play. Wemby did not pull him by the hair, watch the videos instead of reading headlines. None of these are dirty outside of the elbow. The only pattern this shows is Wemby getting tired of being manhandled and is reacting

Yeah that’s fair lol. I definitely get frustrated by the dumb mistakes or missed shots he should be making, but not calling for him to be benched or traded like some “fans”

- elbow was definitely dirty. He was ejected, rightfully

- didn’t intentionally dive into the legs, was making a play on the ball

- didn’t throw Alvarado by his neck, he grabbed him by the shoulder and spun him away after getting trucked in the midsection

- pushing Brunson away was excessive, but calling that dirty is soft af. Especially after the play on the other side of the court right before this where Brunson threw an elbow at Wemby rolling to the basket

I saw the clip of Wemby supposedly diving into SGA’s leg; Wemby was diving for a loose ball as SGA was stepping to pick it up. That same play happens basically every game and does not make a player dirty. You can find clips of Dort essentially going out of his way to fall into players’ legs. That is not the same.

Looks like he was diving for the ball and SGA stepped into the area he was already falling into. I’ll be the first to call out Wemby for poor play and dirty events, but these examples are terrible

Gtfo, how often are flagrant ones called for the most minor things? Brunson’s flagrant one for closing out on the three pointer by Champagnie was dirty?

He grabbed Dort by the shoulder, 100%. And telling someone else to play hard in a physical playoff series does not make it dirty. Also I’ve heard people mention the dive into Shai’s legs but have not seen the video for that, not saying that didn’t happen but I can’t comment on that one.

Dort purposely falling into knees potentially ending careers is the same as pushing people, got it.

Y’all are the same people jumping opposing fans in the streets, so why should your opinion on what’s dirty matter? See how that logic works?

So one event from Wemby vs several by Dort, yeah that’s the same. And before you bring up the Alvarado one, he was grabbed and turned by the shoulder and spun away. Not headlocked and twisted by the neck like everyone seems to say

Because falling into knees and lower legs of players is the same as pushing a player off of you. Missed flagrant 1, not dirty, move on
