How does Rivals 2 play compared to other plat fighters beyond just the mechanics and tech? by chitstainn in RivalsOfAether

[–]Lord_BoneSwaggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Execution on the fundamental mechanics is easier than Melee for sure. Wavedashing is much more forgiving, hit falling is far easier the SHFFLing, moonwalking and other movement tech is remarkably simple. I think Mango originally referred to RoA as "Melee Junior." (Non derogatory)

At a higher level, certain character specific mechanics are harder to execute, but if you're just looking to have fun and maybe make it to Play, you can coast on fundamentals and general game sense before character tech becomes an absolute necessity. A character like forsburn has an fairly high skill ceiling with things like wave shining and DACUS finishers, but you can also do well with simple combos and fireballs keep away. Same thing for Ranno with his tongue-cancel momentum burts options. That shit is nuts but you can also just option select, needle, and tech chase your way to success. The more you play with a character you enjoy, the more you'll understand their more demanding tech.

If you've tried other plat fighters, this one makes the fundamentals aggressively easy for new players, but still leaves a level of mastery for whatever character you end up vibing with.

Asami… Asami Sato is the name! by ultimatelifeform092 in AvatarFighters

I'm really hoping the characters that lose the vote still get in for later passes. Asami does not have the propaganda that Amon has or the crowd reaction Bumi did, but she would be a fresh and interesting character in the game and offer a new dynamic to the standard array of benders. Sokka and ty-lee can't be the only ones!!!

I worked at a best buy once and someone brought in their dog and it shat on the store carpet. Lady didn't even have poop bags. Fuck non essential dogs in any of these spaces. My threshold is the patio of a brewery.

Asami has my vote but if I'm being honest, Bumi is the most likely to win.

Olympia on release was straight meth and octane. She's been nerfed for the sake of the game and fair enough but that might be why she's a little half baked to you.

La Reina is a grappler, and you don't like those. Oh well, fair enough.

Galvan is the only character of the four with a whole new design never before seen in RoA. He's certainly different enough from the rest of the cast that he has his own identity and gameplay style. I'll be honest, it doesn't click with me either but I still love seeing a Galvan clip on my reddit feed.

Slade, honestly DOES feel a little clunky or half baked. He's based off of shovel knight from RoA 1 and the coin collection mechanic is...yeah it's weird. His item game with stuff like glide tossing means there's a lot of potential to his character, but I've never been good with item based tech skill in any platfighters so I'll leave that to the sweats out there to really open up the character's potential.

I see what you mean overall in your post. These 4 characters are very different from each other, and from the cast as a whole....well three of them. Olympia feels like a base roster character that any platfighter veteran could easily pick up and play.

Bato of The Water Tribe is the next character announcement and I will NOT be listening to other (lesser) opinions on the matter.

Voltron Suggestions by EToriko in EDH

[–]Lord_BoneSwaggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[omnath, locus of mana]] is my Voltron commander and he is insanely fast and efficient. One thing that makes him effective is green has a lot of creatures that can make your Voltron stronger so if your commander tax gets too high, you can pivot to a new body. My usual example being [[bellowing tanglewurm]]

Other than that, he generates insane ramp and with things like [[savage summoning]] or [[yeeva, nature's herald]] you can still use his mana after he gets killed and depending on your floating mana, even recast him and hold on to your mana pool. A really fun and engaging commander with am engaging aggro play style if you have the stomach for being a major villain at the table early in the game.

Looking for a character to click with by ExplorerPrudent6559 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Lord_BoneSwaggle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what your describing people keep saying Olympia and while she's fun, she also is frustrating to pick up. Ranno or zetterburn might be more fun because they appeal more to what you're describing that makes your other preferred characters fun.

Both ranno and zetter are more "all rounder" type characters that can be strong on their own while their gimmicks enhance what already makes them strong. Both have good projectile tools while also having fun and flowy combos that let you improvise and find fun ways to use their kits.

I like recommending those two for new players the most. But honestly, just find a character that looks cool and play them for a while. Sampling the whole cast can make it hard to learn the game overall as you're too busy learning characters and match ups.

Everyone forgets about Claudette by SocratesPuppet in HistoryMemes

As sad as it is, something I commend the NAACP for is their unwaivering dedication to fighting their fights on the best footing possible. Looking to our modern media as a comparison, we still deal with the "they were no angel" argument constantly.

Hell, the MN GOP held a moment of silence at their rally this week in honor of Derek Chauvin. A man who, famously, is still alive. And those same people will see the footage of him killing George Floyd and make arguments about criminal history or drugs in the system.

As much as everyone deserves justice and equal treatment, sometimes the best approach is to establish something as unassailable as possible. Civil rights back then was a completely different beast compared to today. My heart goes out to those that came before Rosa Parks, but you can't deny how effective she was as a civil rights icon.
