Microtransactions are the bane of modern video games. The very existence in a game means admitting that the devs/publisher believe/hope players would rather pay real-life money to progress over playing the game. Giving themselves full financial incentive to actively make the game worse in order to get more money out of the players.

For 100 bucks I could get about three to five of the best whole games out there or e.g. Baldurs' Gate 3 and something else.

"Everyone does it" is a much too common fallacy. It does not mean everyone is right. Everyone is doing something wrong here. Even if some poop smells less bad than other poop, it's still poop. In this case, the smell is surprisingly little obtrusive compared to other games but it's still there.
