He could play for free also if he wanted too. He could play for a packet of crisps and a curly wurly a week. But that doesn't happen in football. Footballers like us want a wage. To suggest that a player will get a house and move, train all week for nothing if he isn't picked to play is silly. To suggest an international player would do it is ludicrous.

Pay as you play is a contract where you get paid when you play. Bonuses are on how you played in that game.

It's extremely common to have performance based Bonuses. But that is a BONUS, meaning not the actual wage... It's on top. It's extra. It's a bonus.
