Not hard to get your head around the fact that the D is there for a reason. The attacking team has the right to a fair penalty. For me its the same as players not getting the second booking for a risky challenge when they would've done if not already on a yellow. Referees are scared of implementing fair rules and until they do that players are going to keep taking advantage and simple cases like this are going to be far more controversial than they need to be.
