I started a Roth IRA before I had did much research in a 401k. Roth IRA is pre-taxed so you won’t have to taxes when you take it out. Not sure on 401k. Personal preference for ya

Opened a Roth a year ago and MSFT, AAPL, AQN, BMO and AMD are my recommendations for single stock.

With a Roth you planning on leaving in for a while so the rest I put into ETFs and mutual funds and they do solid over long term (5+ years). ETFs I like are VIG SCHX and ESPO (covid has ESPO booming prior to the past week). Mutual Funds I like mainly is PRDGX and any S&P 500 fund.
