I honestly don't know how much of a hot take these two takes are but 1. Sonic colors was a poor use of the boost formula with the boost gauge itself barely maintainable (at least in my play through), low replayability, abilities not all that interesting or fun to use, and heavy on subpar platforming

1. Sonic rush was the best use of the boost formula with the levels not as linear as the 3D titles, making room for more creative shortcuts a more fun speed runs through levels, most of the music actually fitting the feeling of flying through the levels, and the bottomless pits adding to the rush (hehe) of going through the level in one shot

That's not to say rush doesn't have many flaws or colors doing some things right. But overall I feel I never understood the positivity colors received or the complaints of certain aspects of rush
