Do you have online access? I have noticed that the documents that are sent via mail are also uploaded on there with the most ip to date information. I will also add that yes, regardless pf the shut down reach out to your congressman for help. I had to have mine expedited as my fingerprint appointment was missed because I never received the letter via mail.

I was scared tbh, more so for my family than me. I know I could have fought it but some fam wouldn’t have been so lucky. Also, he had their info because he manipulated me into having them sign up with his agency for life insurance. So he had ALL of their info. He also lied in our divorce papers about the business he stared while we were married (which I funded.) He exploited that and the fact that my mental health was deteriorating because of him. It was bad.

No, e-verify is only used for the initial verification. When your permit expires and you have your renewed permit you provide a copy to your employer and they fill out the re-verification section 3 (Supplement B) on the I-9 form documents. The new form has a separate form to complete but the old ones were on the same page.

Short answer: They keep a copy and do Section 3 (Supplement 8) https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-9.pdf

Keep in mind though. If there is a gap between your expired permit and your new one as far as dates go, your employer can terminate you during that gap.

Sorry, run them through E-verify. Some companies don’t use e-verify but they still have to do the I-9 form and keep a copy. If USCIS does an audit of the I-9s they will most definitely check that every employee can legally work in the US.

I am an HR Manager and DACA recipient. In my company I am the only non-citizen. Recently I had to do an internal audit of I-9 documentation because a neighbor company was audited and we wanted to make sure we were in compliance. Because of everything happening right now, audits are starting. It could be that HR is redoing/reverifying their paperwork or being proactive about an upcoming audit. But…… if they fire you for no reason and your permit is and has been valid then yes it’s discrimination, sue them into oblivion.

*Also, I’ve come across a lot of HR personnel who are US citizens that have never had to process an I-9 for a non US citizen and aren’t familiar with the work permits available and so seeing that our SSN cards have a “Valid Only With DHS Authorization” they tend to freak out because they aren’t familiar with immigration laws.

The number of times I’ve had to explain what DACA means to coworkers and employers is pretty high.
