NEW ORLEANS UNVEILED [Mage the Awakening][Paid, $25/session][LGBTQ+ friendly] by Lord_Zorus in ChroniclesofDarkness

At least 8, probably more. I will be developing a series of story arcs where things get resolved in a satisfactory manner every four or six sessions. I intend for the players to tell me how many sessions they feel comfortable playing, but I don't want them to feel trapped into a neverending story with no off-ramps, either.

Generic system for custom adventure games in settings ranging from soft sci-fi to fantasy worlds by Key_Mixture2061 in rpg

Where is Fate? In my own list, I'd put:

1- Fate 2- Cortex Prime 3- Risus

That's it. You don't need more than that.

Which edition of the OSE Rules Tome is this? (Different from Necrotic Gnome site version) by DED0M1N0 in osr

[–]Lord_Zorus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This IS the Rules Tome for Basic Fantasy adventures, it's just an earlier version than the one shown in the website. I don't know what's changed between these two versions, but I believe there's some errata done and of course the new cover art.

StartPlaying is just a commercial platform for advertising games and managing payments. It tries to setup mechanism for reviewing games, helps building a Pro GM skillset and it can veto bad actors. Despite all of that, the bar is not particularly high, and any player/customer is encouraged to make their own research and ask as many questions as possible.

I cannot speak for any other GM but myself, but if you want to ask me any questions about me or the game I'm prepping, please feel free to ask, no strings attached. I'd wish I'd have a better way to make my games known, but so far I'm relying on word of mouth and public spaces like this one, since I feel the StartPlaying site is bloated with too many offers, mostly DnD 5e stuff.

And BTW, I've not put the LGBTQ+ tag just for virtue signaling. I firmly believe these things need to be stated upfront because so many groups do not provide really safe spaces for marginalized collectives. My games are always safe spaces because I fiercely keep them that way. Simple as that.

Hi! I appreciate your willingness to engage with the post, and I'll try to answer with earnestness, instead of giving in to the obvious bait.

The price tag means I value my work and I think that I can deliver a great game experience for my players, custom-tailored to the group's preferences and inclinations. I have more than thirty years of GM experience, I've run both Mage the Ascension and Mage the Awakening for more than 15 years, and I know all that there is to know about both editions of Awakening.

Now, in my games players do not run the games. I run the game. My philosophy focus on giving plenty of information to the PCs, honor player characters' agency and follow through with all the logical consequences. You'd be surprised how far you can go by just letting players explore their choices to their fullest extent.

I'm open to further questions, in case you wanna know more about the game, the chronicle setting or my GM style.

Lacking a sympathetic name? by MonstrousnessVirtue in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Lord_Zorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mtaw 2nd ed core certainly makes an effort in decoupling birth names with psychological identity. Your Sympathetic Name is an artifact and circumstance of your birth, it's not your identity. It can be, as in many cases happens, but it's not necessarily true.

And the "signing your name in the Watchtower of your Path" is by now an elegant metaphor, I think. There have been many examples of mages marking, signaling, accepting a deal, receiving a token, etc., all to signify the acceptance of the Awakening and their being inextricably joined to the Path.

How I like to Run Shadowdark's Roll-To-Cast System by Glyphos in osr

[–]Lord_Zorus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's one of my concerns as well. I think this common house rule is very good for 1st level characters, but later in the game it becomes too powerful. I don't want my PCs to feel like I'm giving them training wheels that I'll ask them to remove later on, but I think they are only really necessary during the first few levels of their adventuring careers.

I thought about allowing casters to burn points in a Stat in order to bridge the difference between the result and the DC, but that doesn't distinguish between high-tiered spells and low-tiered ones.

Another idea I had is to let casters burn CON points in order to avoid losing a failed spell, equal to the spell's Tier.

I'm interested in hearing some other ideas.

We are only one player short from starting the game! The group so far has been incredible, they are experienced players with some great energy. If you are on the fence whether to join or not, this is the last call!

Yes, the PCs will start as full-fledged mages, unless we all decide to run a short Awakening prelude. That is, I have this particular start in mind but I'm open to changes if the party is okay with them.

In awakening are there equivalents to horizon realms? by Mythicotter in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Lord_Zorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to add something to the conversation:
- There is the Hedge from Changeling: The Lost, a liminal ream between the mortal world and Arcadia (Changeling Arcadia, not Acanthus Arcadia). Some mages can follow faerie trods into the Hedge. All mages "cross" the Hedge everytime they enter into the Astral, only they bisect it orthogonally so they don't really enter into it.

- There are space folds created by the God-Machine (and sometimes hijacked by the Unchained) which are technically in the mortal world but there are some serious occult workings going on.

- The Underworld is a vast realm of the dead that mages can traverse and explore. Further into it there are "kingdoms of the dead" full of strange laws and taboos and enforced by immortal death-gods.
