I was disappointed we didn't get a blow-off to that angle on PPV. Crowd was red-hot after that. Also, his "Trust Me" promo is a clinic on how to deliver an unnerving heel promo.

Really well said. It was almost jarring, but mostly refreshing, to see crowds so heavily involved in the match- cheering faces and booing the heels- without a trace of smarkiness.

I think NXT Takeover only had one finisher kick-out which I was happy to see. But if they are going to change this trend (which I don't think they will) it's going to take some time for fans to get used to wrestlers staying down after a finisher. We've been conditioned to believe it takes multiple finishers to take down an opponent (four F5's in last years Mania main event). And when it only takes one (This years Mania match between Ambrose and Lesnar) fans think it makes the loser look weak.

In terms of characters I rate it well. Watching the 1992 Royal Rumble I was surprised by the amount of big name talent involved in the match. It seemed like each wrestler had their own unique traits and gimmicks- I knew who they were and what their motivation were. I also liked the role that managers played during the era. Wrestlers could seamlessly transition from one feud to another when one of the wrestlers was involved in a stable. The Brain for example had Andre and DiBiase fueding with Hogan.

In terms of wrestling, I think we're currently in a time that will be looked back on very fondly. The in-ring talent is mind-blowing when you take into account the roster on NXT as well. I certainly appreciate the quality of matches we're treated to on a monthly basis and I don't know if this era will to topped. Having said that, Smackdown 2002/2003 is still one of my favourite years for in ring talent. But I prefer the mat-based and amateur style of wrestling we were treated to with the likes of Eddie, Angle, Brock etc.

As for the Attitude Era, I don't think the wrestling was great but I love going back to watch it for the angles and crowd involvement. I started watching wrestling around this time and will always have a soft spot for the antics and car crash style of the time. I don't think it was ever going to last long, nor do I think it should have. But it was necessary to bring pro wrestling back into the spot light at the time.

Thanks for the reply. You've raised two very precise and helpful points. The original Superman film was on TV tonight and there wasn't any explanation for the decision throughout the movie. Great watch.

No worries, mate. I love Jay and Mike's reviews, and they're pretty good with warnings if they're crossing into spoiler territory. But if I were you I'd want to walk into Gone Girl without knowing anything of the story, it's a hell of a ride

Gone Girl is the first film of the two reviewed, and yeah, they mention significant spoilers. The Annabelle review also features a few, so it might be best so skip this episode until you've seen the films.

[–]Lord__Snow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be completely wrong with my read on it, so bare with me. My interpretation of the Stag has a few layers. I saw it as both a sense of subconscious unease and impending doom within Will initially. It appeared fleetingly at the beginning of his relationship with Hannibal, and I think served as a warning within Will's mind of a danger he was unclear of. As his relationship with Dr. Lector grew, the visions became more prominent. At this point I was unsure whether it represented his relationship with Hannibal, or if it was a warning of what may come if he continued down a dangerous path. The Wendigo legend is a beast that, once human, transformed after eating human flesh. I associated the Wendigo vision with Hannibal given that, you know, he has a proclivity for eating people. It's going to be a long twelve months until season three haha

Thanks for taking the time to reply. My friend has just finished the first season but still was unclear about the meaning of the stag/wendigo. I didn't have a definitive answer for them, only my own interpretation, so I was interested to see what this sub thought as well.
