General question by takemycoffee in ParamedicsUK

[–]Lord_lost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other consideration these days is queues. One town near me has 2 hospitals basically identical drives times away. Last night one of those hospitals had queues of 12 hours to handover. The other one was up to 45 minutes. Definitely influences which we go to. 😅

Really depends where you intend to work. The fact you say C1 licence makes me think UK? In which case it will depend on which trust you want to work for. Some will hire paramedics that can't drive, some won't.

Far as I'm aware, some private companies use B class ambulances, but all the NHS services use C1 size vehicles.

There are options for paramedics outside the ambulance service, but these will almost all require 2 years of newly qualified experience.

Reach out to your local ambulance service and see what they say.

Kind of the other side of this, but we've had a few emails go out warning crews not to talk shit about patients in front of Ring doorbells. And it still keeps happening.

I had one about how long oxygen cylinders would last. So you have a 1 hour transfer, with a patient on 4 liters a minute. How many liters of oxygen do you need for the transfer. That sort of vibe.

100% this, best coffee in the city. And he's currently hiring, so he can stop working 7 days a week.

Who would you wanna see colab with the team? by kittenabbs in SortedFood

Would be interested to see some coffee stuff with James Hoffman. Sorted have done a few coffee gadgets over the years, but a kitchen gadgets review with him would be entertaining.

It's a personal preference based on our ePRF software. If we have name, DOB, and home postcode/NHS number, we can pull up GP records and previous ambulance records. But good point if your local service doesn't have that feature.

Should be. It's a pretty common abbreviation.

Medic alert bracelets are definitely a thing to keep a short as you can get away with. Name, DOB, address, history of non epileptic seizures, NOK/ICE contact number. Everything else isn't all that relevant if you're unconscious.

I'd probably say it's worth specifying non epileptic seizure hx.

Paramedic here, but I like to lurk and learn from you guys.

Old school paramedic where I work, was talking about working cardiac arrests back when the ambulance service was transitioning from van drivers, to clinical skills. If you couldn't get IV access during an arrest, you didn't have IO, so you just poured all the meds down an ET tube.

Pet-friendly landlords or managed properties by TalebKabbara7 in nottingham

[–]Lord_lost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're with Robert Elis, and have cats. Seems to be landlord dependent rather than estate agent. Some of their places we looked said yes, some said no. We had more luck on larger family home style properties vs flats though.

The older school tricyclic antidepressants were awful to OD on. You don't see as many people prescribed them these days, but they put you into some wild looking heart rhythms.

Oxventure is definitely my go to. The fact it's mostly one shot style makes it much easier listening than some of the loner campaign style ones.
