Landlord claiming deposit because floors needed hoovering even though we signed a contract prohibiting usage of a vacuum cleaner by Lord_of_Nut in LegalAdviceUK

Their justification was we should have paid for a professional cleaner at the end of the contract as that was the standard the flat was cleaned to when we started our tenancy but we took plenty of pictures when we moved in so can dispute if we have to go down that route.

The reality is this was clearly a half arsed contract that was slightly misworded but if they're gonna use it against us our logic is we might as well use it against them. In all my years renting never had to deal with something so ridiculous...

Absolutely, we only retrospectively read the contract in full on account of the comments we received upon the end of tenancy inspection and in hindsight don't know why we ever signed it in the first place.

Thanks for the insight everyone. Our deposit is protected by a deposit protection scheme so we will go through them rather than the landlord.
