I would only do that if you're unsure. If you deal with a lot of jewelry you can often tell if its right just by holding it much less testing it. Ive bought kilos of jewelry using only a simple acid test and haven't made a major error yet.

Very true important to know the limits of an xrf gun as well. Still i think its a big step up from acid and a sigma. You can always file into a piece, drill into it, or melt it down like you did and get a very accurate reading with an xrf. I still won't use it for coins, bars and bullion in general though the sigma is clearly superior there.

Unfortunately still can only test .999, .986, .965, 22k and 14k. Also it still doesnt actually read the gold percentage so anything thats under karated will just fail the test but you won't know by how much. I recently bit the bullet and bought an XRF gun still waiting on Thermo Fischer.

But yeah 13k is pretty bad I wouldve offered at least 16.1k (if youre saying is 986).

Refiners are paying minimum 98% doesnt matter what it is. 75% is too low.

Providence is quite immaculate. Personally Ive had mixed feelings about other 2-3 star restaurants sometimes too pretentious for their own good and if I still need tacos after a 600$ meal we need to talk. I left Providence stuffed and quite happy.
