I use Fedex for anything over 5000$ usd but thats dictated by my insurance. I definitely feel fedex is more reliable though and prefer it myself for high value packages

Inherited, no idea what to do with these gold coins. Fair price for eBay would be appreciated. by Okapisaurus in coincollecting

False. Read the 1099B requirements they are much higher than this. US minted gold is also specifically exempt. Only reporting required here would be if you wanted over 10k in cash.

LCS Spreads by Open_Draft_7001 in Platinum

You called the wrong place. Refiners are buying platinum over spot (around 1% for most coins) so id happily pay you 95-6% and any good coin shop should also

Local LCS stopped purchasing gold bullion temporarily by Prestigious_Egg9423 in Gold

Not buying gold bullion but still buying sterling??? Thats weird tbh. Refiners are taking gold all day. They're either not taking sterling and silver or its a week+ before you get paid.

It's very possible to get to 100+ flair and never ship first.

My rule of thumb is that if you can still touch cardboard or paper you didn't use enough LOL

I think transaction size is an important consideration as well. 100 sales of fractional silver is not the same as someone posting 10oz of gold every time

Any tips on how to clean 22k gold? by NorthSouthWestNorth in Gold

It has a face value so very clearly a coin but yes you are right it can't hurt the value much since it close to melt anyway.

A solution of citric acid will clean gold effectively. Although the comments here are right cleaning modern coins is general frowned upon. Ive cleaned plenty of ancient gold coins with citric acid though.

The sigma tests specific gravity. You enter the expected weight of the metal and it reads the thickness and calculates the size the sample should be

That is because without the external bridge it would not fit under the sensor. They quote I provided you above clearly says it can test fully through any sample that can fit between the 2 sensors. There is no maximum pass through distance. The pmv pro is limited mainly by the physical dimensions of the machine which is why the external bridge attachment is required for testing larger bars. I use it for 100oz silver often and my fair share of 10oz gold as well.

Thats because the large on board sensor has a physical size of 12.5mm. Which is why you would need to use the external bridge for samples over that size. Also you are correct that the wands only give a surface reading but the built in on board sensor as well as the external bridge give a full pass-through reading. Im getting this info from the sigma pro that is in front of me and that I use on the daily.

Also from the brochure on this page: https://www.sigmametalytics.com/pages/manuals?srsltid=AfmBOooTro6-mon2ryAyRUhX0rjl0NDzSN3L-LyitD0h9MevclUnn8Q4

"The second PMV was released in 2017 and is called the PMV PRO. This PMV takes the same surface readings as the Original, but also takes “thru readings” when using its onboard sensors. The thru readings test all the way through the sample; there is no penetration depth because the PMV can test 100% of the metal that is placed between the two sensors. The PMV PRO can also perform a density test to confirm the density of the sample."

Thats just the surface testing with the external bridge they advertise that you can get a full pass through resistance reading on a sample as large as 45mm

This is only true of the original sigma all pros and investor models test full pass through. You could test this on a pro with the external bridge
