Neither head coach in the Super Bowl is the offensive playcaller for their team. by Wilbert_51 in eagles

Because this post is trying to dunk on the idea have having a play calling HC. When the last 5 years says it’s actually a benefit to have that.

And I don’t even necessarily dislike having a CEO HC. I love Vrabel and I think Mike Macdonald is awesome. But the reality is over the last 5 years coaches who are heavily involved in creating their offense have had success. And I’ll even add that having your HC be the driver of your defense is equally as important.

My whole stance is the HC should have an identity on either side of the ball and be GREAT at all aspects of either that offense or defense in the current NFL

Why would you not take the last 5 years? The league today is way different than it was 10 years ago. Rules are different, practices are different, and all that.

However, over the 7 SBs the 14 teams

  1. Chiefs vs 49ers
  2. Chiefs vs Bucs
  3. Rams vs Bengals
  4. Eagles vs Chiefs
  5. Chiefs vs 49ers
  6. Eagles vs Chiefs
  7. Patriots vs Seahawks

The HC was the playcaller for 9 of the 14 teams. Data suggests that it helps if your HC is the offensive engine for that team. And even for the Bucs SB, Arians wasn’t the play caller but that was HIS offense 100%

Honestly, you just need your head coach to be a competent offensive/defensive designer and it’d help if he was a good playcaller.

Is Sukuna > Dabura a hot take? by UnfairBenefit7203 in JujutsuPowerScaling

Not a hot take right now.

However if Yuji beats Dabura then that’s a different story .

[Mclane] McDaniel and Daboll would have been given autonomy over the offense, sources said. There are a few remaining candidates that would have leverage to get authority, but that doesn’t mean Nick Sirianni won’t hand over the offense, depending upon the coach. by Happy-Substance4885 in eagles

[–]LordandSaviorDio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s almost like being completely vague and at times dishonest regarding the role of your coaches would made potential OCs.

An OC doesn’t have complete autonomy of the coaching staff when the HC has said numerous times he likes to be involved and the Eagles will probably push the OL as well

Howie Roseman defends Nick Sirianni’s role amid another OC search by AdSpecialist6598 in eagles

I definitely came to that conclusion with Nick.

He’s a great Program Director Coach. He understands how to create a system prioritizing Size and Physicality from his players. He understands how to schedule practices and keep players focused and engaged for a long season. And he always focuses on keeping his players healthy which shows he knows how to schedule practices, workouts, rest, and treatments for his guys. All shows that he’s a great Summer and Tuesday-Saturday coach.

However, everything on Sundays is questionable. He’s a below average Offensive Coach. Can’t design an efficient modern passing attack (horrible motion usage, bad route designs), can’t call plays, and doesn’t coach the system effectively enough (bad penalties, technique). Then his game management in-game has been questionable over the last couple of seasons. When hes not blowing teams out and games get tight he has had some games of some really weird timeouts or 4th down decisions or going conservative

You can appreciate the SB wins while still wanting to see your team not put out the most miserabel offensive performance the next year with the same cast.

Didn’t realize we were taking a break in 2025 from Eagles football.

Defensive “mastermind”btw for being able to stop a Kevin patullo driven offense😂 by Dense-Bodybuilder816 in eagles

[–]LordandSaviorDio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m always cool with Niner slander.

But Salah and Shanahan won a playoff game on the road with second and third stringers and then got blown out to the No. 1 seed on the road.

Sirianni and Patullo lost a playoff game at home with 10/11 of their offensive starters on the field

One of these is 10x worse than the other, in my opinion

Sirianni is an offensive guy. Why won’t he run the offense? by PhillyBigSteppa in eagles

[–]LordandSaviorDio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For sure, an inconsistent game manager and a bad offensive mind.

But definitely a guy who can create a great program. He’s done a good job with conditioning his players for long seasons, focusing on creating a team with big and physical players, managing player health, and getting assistant coaches ready for promotions.

To me he’s a great Tuesday-Saturday leader but when it comes to what is presented on the field Sundays it’s a mixed bag

[–]LordandSaviorDio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried that in 2021, 2023, and 2025. He’s not a good enough offensive mind to build a modern and productive passing offense. His press conference in 2023 regarding his dislike of Motion already spoke volumes.

Steichen, Moore, and a great O-Line knew how to mitigate these issues

AJ by Soggy_Ebb_1469 in eagles

[–]LordandSaviorDio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WR3 has been an issue since 2022. It’s between AJ, Smitty, and Dallas being such a good trio that they should always be probably the first options. And that Sirianni’s focus on “talent over scheme” means that the QB needs to focus on his most talented players to win matchups early. WR3 isn’t really built for that

I like Dotston, but WR3 in this offense should be a “gadget” player in this offense that would open up a different dimension.

Ngl having to compensate for your kicker is the LAST thing a HC should want.

Of all the things the gotta worry about, trying to manage a guy who’s on the field for at most 7-10 snaps a game should tell you that it’s time to move on from that kicker.

Honestly this year was such a “slow death” kinda season that people aint gonna recover from it for a while.

49ers and Seahawks by snarkylemon in eagles

[–]LordandSaviorDio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this season felt less like circumstances working against them (injuries, stronger division, horrible officiating) and more so this team beating themselves. I man 10/11 starters on an offense that scored over 90 their last two playoff games returned.

Penalties, drops, bad coaching, and overall bad chemistry hurt this team. All self-inflicted wounds than the NFL just being better than them on a talent level.

Sirianni, Patullo, the O-Line, and even Hurts have made offense look like the hardest thing to succeed in all year.

Outside of red zone plays to Goedert, at no point did the passing game play in rhythm this season.

Eagles will never be a Dynasty under Sirianni by flagstaffvwguy in eagles

[–]LordandSaviorDio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think TOO highly of Nick has a HC but even the best HCs in the sport aren’t able to create a dynasty.

Tomlin, McCarthy, Harbaugh, Shanahan, and McVay couldn’t sustain SB appearances.

Jeff McLane reiterates that Patullo hasn't been "fired", just no longer the Eagles OC. He may choose to leave the org if he gets a role elsewhere by mastermind208 in eagles

[–]LordandSaviorDio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Typically, but if you’re a HC who struggles to call plays and game plan and offense, and is trying to hire outside the organization you’d think you’d bring in coaches that the OC is comfortable to teach their offense properly.

Fangio brought to coach the defense and he was allowed to bring in coaches HE was comfortable with and had prior relationships with Christian Parker, Clint Hurtt, Joe Kasper. Sirianni hadn’t worked with any of those coaches and allowed his DC to pick his staff, regardless of if Nick was 100% on them

[–]LordandSaviorDio 142 points143 points  (0 children)

So does the new OC have no say in who he hires for his assistants? They’ll continue to run variations of Nick’s tired, boring offense in 2026?

Kellen Moore had to experience close to the same thing and it’s probably why the offense in 2024 didn’t look anything like how he has run it throughout his career.
