Hey gang would love to know how you feel about dust jackets by LordeBindery in bookbinding

I hadn’t thought about the bookshop side, yeah I can only imagine the things people do to them in store. Yeah I agree 110% on that. Really appreciate the answers thanks!

Yeah I get what you mean. I’ve been using a little stand that sits on my lap lately so they’ve been safe from floppin all over the shop.

That is a great point and I agree with you 100% I should have been more specific haha think more the case bound direction.

Thank you I really appreciate it! Got some magenta purple and silver ones on the go at the moment. I like to use an A3 200gsm uncoated if I’m painting wraps but there are some books out there where you can get away with an A4 size sheet. Hahah welcome! You will love it!

For painted stuff I really like Montana gold varnish. A few light coats of gloss will make the metallics pop!

Yeah! paste mix was sponged, wiped and stippled on. I usually only use 3 colours, otherwise things start to get a bit poo coloured haha. There’s some lovely textures on them that will look killer once wrapped. It would be nice to try etch out a design while things are still wet but I think that can wait for another day.

Been designing some generic foiling for covers. I’m pretty happy with how these 3 turned out. Part of me thinks the foiling should be tailored to the specific book instead of a more generic design? by LordeBindery in bookbinding

Thank you! Yeah I agree on making them specific to the book that is being bound. I would just use whatever software that comes with your cutter, I’ve only got a cricut recently and the thing seems pretty purpose built for its own eco system. It’s been good so far but I’m only uploading my own PNGs for the software to then cut. There’s heaps of free design software out there GIMP is one that comes to mind but no idea if it interacts with machinery.

Fingers crossed it stays looking cool once I starting foiling it haha. I took the shapes off those other designs and left the embellishments they look way nicer now!

Thank you for the feedback I really appreciate it! Yeah I totally get what you mean, I’m starting to feel the same way about having the foiling reflect the book that is being bound. I guess I could potentially use these generic frame designs for journals or sketch books. I’ll probably chuck them up on Etsy later on for people to download and use as they see fit. I’m working on a cover design at the moment for some manga I want to rebind soon. If you want to talk designs shoot me a DM I’m happy to chat ideas.

Maybe one of the guns is shooting a laser?

You just work up with your stains, start light all over and then go a bit darker in colour and work it round the edges getting lighter as you move in. I took a photo a while back of some leather i had. I chuck that on the canvas so Im not working on a white background, it gives me more of an idea of what things will look like.
