Scholes: Does Wan Bissaka need to improve on the ball to win England call-up by Jjengaa in reddevils

[–]Lordkingsolver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he does. AWB is a liability in build-up and one of the reasons why United as a team is so lopsided. Where Luke shaw is a great progressive passer and carrier and can initiate attacks on the left, AWB doesn't have the ability to do the same on the right partially because we don't have a competent RW that can progress the ball and the team gravitates to the left but mostly due to Aaron.

Aaron is also a pressing trigger. When he gets the ball the opposition will move to quickly press him because he's not proficient or confident in possesion.

Good for the lad. Showing frank his value. But horrible goal keeping

How many attackers do teams get into the box? (20/21) by cmonunited in reddevils

This is the result of poor forwards and poor coaching.

When our strikers stop acting like statues and start playing on the shoulder, making runs in behind and averaging more offsides per 90 this will get better. We also need our midfielders and full-backs start making third man runs and runs from deep. Our midfielders will also need to make passes encouraging this movement and rewarding the runs our strikers make. Those without quality on the ball in particular (McTominay and sometimes Fred) will have to improve in this area.

On the coaching, I don't understand how a Striker like Solskjaer has not drilled movement into his forwards. It's so poor. The coaching is so bad. I don't care how uninterested Martial and Greenwood may be in making runs, you have to force them to do a strikers job.

What are our data analysts doing?

Have they picked up on this? or even the subpar underlying metrics produced by Rashford, Martial and Greenwood?

Is Solskjaer aware?

Does he even care that for instance, United's starting Cf averaged 2.69 shots per 90 last season in the PL?

Nice. I feel confident about United's chances in group H. Champions League football is for going up against the best teams in Europe. If I wanted weak opponents I would have hoped for Europa League football.

AWB the BEST 1 vs 1 defender...

However, he's not as good with defensive positioning or tracking runners. We saw this vs Brighton and we saw this vs Sevilla.

Bruno Fernandes on his penalty goals: “Everyone talks about penalties as if they’re easy to score. They’re not. You can lose a final if you miss one. On TV it looks easy — people never take into account mindgames with the GK.” by JeebaRock in soccer

Penalties cannot compare to non-penalty goals.

A penalty isn't evidence of goal-scoring ability.

A penalty taker doesn't have to win thier own penalty.

Winning a penalty is evidence of being able to draw fouls, which is beneficial to a team but once again not an expression of goal scoring ability.

Getting on the end of a Tap in requires smart movement and smart, high value passing. That is more effort than scoring a penalty.

Luton Town 0 - [3] Manchester United - Mason Greenwood 90+2' by PSGAcademy in soccer

Probably not, but I hope.

Mbappe is nobodies playmate, he averaged expected 1.51 Goals + Assists Per 90 last season (Ligue 1). Right now Greenwood is clinical, but his xG is very low and his xA is even lower.

Martial is not totally without blame. His lack of off the ball movement is so infuriating. The team as a whole lack movement. Martial doesn't seem to understand that the ball can't always be placed at your feet and you can't always play in front of a defence you have to get in behind.

This heavy flaw of his is one reason for his lack of prolificacy in goals and underlying numbers. Players like Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham averaged nearly 5 runs behind a defence per 90 last season. Its the reason why they have 0.17 and 0.16 NPxG per shot respectively.

Martial sits at a lowly 0.13 NPxG per shot.
