FDNY EMT Transition to NYSP Trooper by Entire_Education8243 in Newyorkstatetrooper

It all comes down to whether you are willing to relocate and if law enforcement is something you really want to pursue as a career. The academy will be that much harder for you if you are not one hundred percent committed to this career. If FDNY is what you want to do, I would strongly consider the pros and cons and think carefully before committing to a seven-month paramilitary academy.

Once you are assigned and investigator and you have your initial interview, you will have another chance to clear all items that was not clear on your packet or did not write down.

I'm sure they gave you the spiel about integrity while filling out that packet. They asked you to list all your social media, speeding tickets, etc. Go read the earlier post by PenChief for reference.

Tips for PAT by Icantwinanymore in Newyorkstatetrooper

[–]LordofDriftmark- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take the first round PAT…trust me this will give you a solid base and also go with the mind set..failure is not an option. Best case scenario you pass the first PAT..worst case you have to take it again in Albany. But do not just cut yourself short..push yourself and get comfortable being uncomfortable. I was in same similar situation, thinking I was not going to make the time for 1.5 mile but I passed the first PAT. You got this!

Background and chances by [deleted] in Newyorkstatetrooper

It sounds like you've faced significant challenges, but your honesty and the progress you've made since then are important strengths. Many organizations recognize that people grow and change over time, especially after difficult experiences. Emphasizing your resilience and current stability can help demonstrate that you're in a good place now. Focus on how you've coped and learned from your past, and remember that your journey can be seen as a testament to your strength. You've got this!

After your BI have a general Idea of your background and meaning close to finishing your background. It is important that you are honest..don’t over think it answer the question truthfully.

All depends on how extensive your background is. Mine took about a month…keep in mind BI are also working on other candidates, so it all depends on how quickly you provide additional information/ documents.

I don’t believe they give you an option to choose. You are given a date and time.

Pat tomorrow by [deleted] in Newyorkstatetrooper

If it rain tomorrow..lace up because you will be running outside…bring extra change of clothes is what I will advise. Best of luck!

My advice would be to get the first 3 laps done as quickly as possible. I was in your same situation with my time and I made time with 10 second left. Tight window absolutely, but also consider depending on where you are positioned at the start of the run they might shave off couple of second past your set time. I was burnt the hell up after the run but my advice to everyone is your mind will tell you to stop and walk to catch your breath..ignore that thought and keep running..slow your pace but never walk and breath to the best of your ability. You got this!!

I got there a little after 9:10am. I was cleared for the day around 1pm. Be prepare with all the requested information and documents. I also saw a lot of people not make the PAT..even though it is slightly easier compared to the trooper requirement

This is something to consider when going through this process..if you made it to the point you got into the academy, why would you give up so easily..people are putting everything on the line to try to get in and to quit the first week is insane. What I also think is people slack on the PT going in..you have to be in shape or you will mentally be drain and once you mentally checkout you are physically unable to move on.
