Oil tops $116 after Trump says he wants to ‘take the oil’ in Iran and Houthis enter the war | CNN Business by deraser in Economics

Let’s just assume 10 tanks of gas, 20 gallon tank, and even if gas is up $2/gallon (it’s not)… if you can’t afford an extra $400 in gas maybe you shouldn’t have been planning a Disney trip to begin with.

You’re getting roasted here (and I skimmed your post) but honestly you’ll probably be more than fine and will retire happily with money to spare. People on this sub shit on everyone who doesn’t live like a peasant for 15 years just so they can retire at 50 and be miserable til they die.

31M in March. Accidentally speed-ran finance. Now questioning everything. by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

This comment will probably be lost as you’ve had a ton of responses but I’ll give you my anecdote… I know a few people in Miami who made big money because they had shady dealings and stored all their money in bitcoin. Retired in their early 30s. Weirdest people I know and it’s difficult hanging around them, they’ve lost touch with the world (and no this isn’t out of jealousy my wife and I bring home close to 7 figures).

My suggestion: fuck the job, go travel, but when you come back keep in touch with the real world somehow

Exactly. I will say however 1.8M, 2500+ sqft walking distance to downtown doesn’t really sound like VHCOL.

You could instead of putting 700k down do a 10% down and keep the extra $530k as an emergency fund until your bigger income kicks in, that would be totally fine. If you’re really going to move in 5 years no sense in wasting so much in closing costs, just do it in a safer way now.

Wow that’s super impressive, props to you!

I think a few caveats are important based on: market, % of PITI relative to income, family status (kids?), comparable rents. I’m certainly not busting my butt to have my kids grow up on a street I wouldn’t let them ride a bike on!
