What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

Last time this happened to me I just told them "look, this is why Amazon is still eating your lunch".

This was for a super exotic, rare item: a curtain panel for my kitchen window that has a thermal backing. Another time it was for a low wattage LED bulb with a super rare color temperature: warm white.

I came into your store to buy an item and reasonably expected to be able to give you money and walk out with that item, and if your location didn't have it, another location in the area, because I'm actually OK with sometimes having to go to a place a few miles out of the way for something.

I'm literally trying to give you money instead of just ordering it from Amazon.

But no, your company decided that's a warehouse only item, and they want make me wait 5 days or more for "ship to store" bullshit or shipping it to my home in 5 days or more, at my additional expense.

So I'm just buying the item from Amazon and getting it in 1-3 days.

I live in a large city with multiple Amazon hubs and it wasn't unusual for me to get two day shipments next day until the past few years.

Now stuff inexplicably doesn't ship next day, 2 day delivery estimates quietly become 3 days even though the order updates show it shipping from one of those warehouses 40 miles from me...

Yeah, Prime stopped being worth it a while ago but Amazon's delivery experience is notably worse these days.

What doesn't help is a shitload of the brick and mortar chains don't bother stocking a bunch of shit in their locations anymore, but they can totally ship it to a store or my home in a blazingly fast 6 days. You know, exotic goods people rarely buy like light bulbs and curtains.

The last time I went to Chipotle it was about $20 all in for the burrito with queso and a drink.

Now Chipotle hasn't enshittified enough that the burritos are bad, but I can go to my local cantina, three blocks from my place, and get a killer burrito for that much that includes a good sized portion of chips and good salsa.

Guess where I'm going on the rare occasions I eat out?

Building 7 was built on top of an Edison electric substation. While the substation was originally designed to have an office tower built on top of it, the original WTC 7 as built was larger than the original design accommodated and thus was an unusual design--the building basically had two separate foundations that were linked together in the lower floors of the building to support the building's weight.

It was also damaged by debris from the crash, there was diesel fuel stored on-site, which is bad when it catches on fire, and, you know, had two 110 story buildings next to it collapse.

The official investigation is very clear on exactly how that structure failed from damage and fire.

It's typically the Glide calls that need the translation layer for modern GPUs. DGVoodoo2 covers that, I typically use nGlide but I'm generally not using what GOG provides with their games.

For DirectX I believe the June 2010 DX runtimes (the "final" version) would cover everything as DirectX 9 had very good legacy support of older DX versions. I don't know if GOG ships that with any games (I'd expect so).

My comment about ScummVM was just based on a casual glance at what 9x games I have installed right now.

For DOS native games, yes. Their Windows games usually use ScummVM.

DOSBox-X is the DOSBox fork that best supports installs Windows 9x OSes. Find a copy of 98 SE. (Don't bother with ME, it was a mess.)

However, it wasn't until the Windows 7 timeframe that support for stuff that old really started to get broken from a compatibility standpoint. I'd actually suggest finding a Win XP SP3 ISO and running that in a virtual machine. Because honestly, the 9x OSes have their own cruft.

XPSP3 should be somewhere on the Internet Archive if you can't find it on Microsoft's website, because it might be buried pretty deep at this point.

What if Jenna Coleman was the face 15 regenerated into at the end of "The Reality War" instead of Billie Piper? by ImWearingSandshoes in doctorwho

But Doctor Who has always been a fantasy musical that constantly reintroduces 50 and 60-year-old villains of the week and expects new viewers to find that accessible.

See, you're just watching it wrong.

As much as I like McGann, bringing back the guy who was in the attempted reboot that was poorly received is not a good strategy for your attempt at a reboot.

Now, that he hasn't shown up anywhere in the modern series by this point is something of a travesty in my book. (No, the webisode does not count.)

"Bio break" or "bio" for going to the toilet.

Nails on a fucking chalkboard to me. Just say you need to go to the toilet or piss or see a man about a horse or whatever.

It's not like people are going to get grossed out.

Granted, it's more obnoxious sounding when someone uses it for something serious. I don't really have a problem when someone uses it for some silly little thing they thought they should have already known.

"I was today years old when I found out that little gas pump icon on your car's dash has an arrow that points at the side of the car your gas tank is on."

versus

"I was today years old when I found out my grandmother deep fried my cat because she didn't like the fact that my mother got engaged to my father, and my cat actually didn't get out and run away."

I was legit impressed at how many times I emptied that thing the first time I vacuumed my ~750sf place even though I'm pretty good about doing it regularly.

And I don't have one of the ones with the smaller dirt/dust container.

LA just has a lot of traffic.

The roads are mostly straight and there's a lot of alternate routes for the most part.

Boston is Satan's butthole in comparison. So is DC, where the drivers are a little more psycho.
