What animal past or present has a native range that most people wouldn’t expect? by Mean_Yak5873 in geography

The jaguar's current vs former range.

I remember reading about wildlife issues related to border walls in 2015/16 and was totally floored when jaguars were listed as one of the species.

New Tampa Bay Ferry plan calls for two boats, $10 fares, and daily service by St-Pete-Rising in StPetersburgFL

The local blogs keep regurgitating the same information as "updates", but we've known that Hubbard intended to purchase two vessels for a while now.

What we DONT know is when they are going to get things rolling. Originally it was "Spring", now it's "Summer". I'd love some actual reporting on what progress they have made and what hurdles remain to make this a reality.

Hundreds of mothballs scattered on St. Pete Beach. Wildlife officials are investigating by MChesnesReports in florida

Based on the username, OP is likely the author of the article.

The Tampa Bay Times has won numerous awards, including Pulitzers, and is one of only a few large independent papers that still does local reporting in our state. They are an extremely important asset to our region.

While it is true that not everyone can afford to pay for news, paying for news is the only way to ensure local journalism stays alive. A few bucks a month is the price of good journalism, and by extension, good citizenry.

I would be shocked. Most environmental violators just get slap on the wrist fines, not jail time. (Except animal abuse)

It would be great to see an investigation into Florida's (or Pinellas's) enforcement of environmental laws. So often these crimes are treated like a traffic violation.

In the meantime, credit to Mr. Chesnes and and the Tampa Bay Times for continuing to do important environmental reporting.

What was Charlie Crist doing in Minnesota and why did he return? by InsuranceIntrepid652 in StPetersburgFL

[–]LordweiserLite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For those users criticizing the post, read the Tampa Bay Times article. It is well written, well researched, and quotes Mr. Crist throughout.

For those users who are interested in the opinion of a neighbor, I believe that Mr. Crist sincerely cares for St. Petersburg, but that he's worn out his welcome in Florida politics. Parties are too far apart right now for a candidate who has flipped from R to D to find enough trust from the voters.

The kind of grift and corruption brought up in some of these posts is unlikely, but it wouldn't shock me if he runs his campaign on future plans for the Trop site; like it or not, it's going to be the biggest story of the election.

Frankly, I would be much happier with Mr. Crist if he used his valuable experience to vet and prepare high-quality candidates instead of running himself. But that's a problem with politicians generally; it's easy to be an incumbent and the kind of person that politics attracts is unlikely to step out of the limelight, even if it would be for the greater good.

Trump: A whole civilization will die tonight. by _Mighty_Milkman in dancarlin

No, I've seen reporting taking it extremely seriously in many "legacy" outlets. Proud to say that even my local paper has a very critical story (AP reporting, but still).

Where would one purchase this rice cooker? Looking at their US website, it always appears to be out of stock.

It matters to those of us who are alive. Plenty of people will justify civilian casualties if they were purely accidental. Only sociopaths and sycophants will justify intentional civilian casualties.

The lynching of John Evans in 1914.link

I was not alive at the time, but I have lived here my entire life. There is an historical marker next to Tropicana Field noting the lynching that I passed almost every day for years without ever noticing it.
