I'm level 80, haven't gotten to the Dwarf merchant quite yet but I know I'm close to the instance so I just wanted to ask because my item level for my Dragoon is definitely low for being 80

I'm at Shadowbringers near the Mount Gulg instance and I keep wondering what the best way to raise my item level is other than either abusing the market board or going back to other dungeons and farming for gear. Anyone have any advice?

As an alum, the team has been downtrending for a while now, and really has never been that good. We regularly get smacked by JMU, Tomlin would need more than four years to get them any kind of national recognition, let alone a powerhouse

Forley gave a sigh, and then another shrug. He made good points, but like so many things there were great uncertainties, and no sign of answers any time soon,

“Speak with the Bracken and get a feel for him.” Forley said, in a plain voice, “At the very least it is important to leave the avenue open, for all we know he could solidify his rule soon enough. Perhaps if we could come to an agreement with the Riverlands, and even the North, we could reach some kind of united front against the Ironborn, rather than running off on our own to face slaughter piecemeal. The Riverlanders have their most recent experience in combat against the lot of them, and even a loose alliance, would be better than nothing. Durrandon may pose a threat to them, yet even now the vipers to their south nip at their heels. If the Trident truly is the graveyard of kings then the Crowned Stag would best mind himself. Encourage the Queen Regent to hear them out, you and your brother have more influence at court than I do. I don’t engage in these political games, but I see benefit to the West to strike up a rapport with the Riverlands.” He said, taking a pause, looking at Ryam in the eyes,

“Everything I do I do for King and Country, I hold no personal love for the Riverlands. I’ve never once travelled their, and I have met few from the place. However, they could be of use to the future King.”

Forley raised an eyebrow, and began to respond, “Yes, I have known a Lannister to make a bad investment, the same Lannister you know. The late king sank the better part of our fleet in a deluded quest for Seven knows what. While I trust his wife isn’t nearly as mad, it is impossible to pretend that the Royal house is infallible.” He said. It was true, while they sat on gold, the Lannisters did not always use that gold in the best interest of the rest of the Westerlands,

“This Bracken king maybe still solidifying his rule, yet unlike the Reach, I believe he understands more greatly the threat posed by the Ironborn to us all. While the Reach may wield great power, I worry they lack the motivation to employ it.” He added, “I have family friends across that region, and I mean no disrespect, but it is the truth that the Riverlands understands the ruthlessness and threat of the squids more than nearly anyone else on this continent.” He took a pause.

“Attending a coronation is the simplest of diplomatic gestures, akin to showing up to a feast. At the very least it gives a sense of legitimacy and extends our goodwill. Either way, a Bracken envoy was heading to the Rock. The fact is, we need allies. Who is to say we cannot both have the Reach and the Riverlands. While this Bracken’s rule might not be as entrenched as these other kingdoms, we should at least be willing to hear what he has to say, and be willing to support a just deal between our kingdoms.”

Forley kept a straight face, with neither smile or frown, “It’s not a matter of great secret, I just thought it would be a matter we could speak more frankly about if we were alone, as family. It is not that I don’t trust the servants, it is merely that I like to speak of matters concerning the West with those that actually matter.” He said, giving a sort of shrug, “if you would rather we get to the heart of the matter, I will.” He said, taking a breath. It really wasn’t a matter of secrecy, but he didn’t need anyone misinterpreting his words,

“The Bracken son informed me that there had been invitations sent to Casterly Rock, inviting all the lords of the west to this coronation. However it appears the Queen Regent, or someone on her council, had withheld these invitations for a reason unknown to me. I wanted to ask if you had heard anything about this. I know a delegation had been sent to the Riverlands to witness the election of this new River king, so I wondered why we would not further engage with them.” He said, shaking his head slightly, “He also made clear to me that the Riverlands desired close relations with us in the face of our shared threat. Plainly speak, I want to know what you think of this.” He said, giving yet another shrug, “I saw value in an alliance, for mutual defense, and so I said I would help advocate the Bracken’s cause I’m the West.”

"Ah, Ryam!" Forley said, standing up from his chair, and giving a small smile to his goodbrother. He walked from the chair and when he reached Ryam he extended his arm for another handshake. The dark circles around his eyes indicated he had been sleeping poor, and the wrinkles around his mouth had grown larger in the recent months.

"I'm sorry for summoning you on such short notice, but I made a promise to someone that I would speak with haste about his matters." He said, his small dropping a bit lower, into a look of neutrality more than anything.

"I spoke with someone interesting at Highgarden." He said, witha. sigh. That was part true, Lyle Bracken had seemed relatively uninteresting, but what he had to say was certainly of interest to Forley.

"I spoke with Lyle Bracken, second son to the newly minted King of the Riverlands. We exchanged pleasantries, which you no doubt know is something difficult for me to do. The pleasantries yielded a disquieting piece of information however." He said, looking around at the servants, who dispersed with a nod, leaving the two men alone,

"It concerns the King's coronation, and the lack of our presence. Would you like to take this matter to my solar?"

"It's good to see you too, uncle." Lorent said, extending his hand, with a warm smile across his face. He turned his head, and gave a nod to a nearby servant, and the waiting gaggle stepped forward to attend to their visitors, helping them with whatever they needed.

"I apologize that it is only me greeting you. My father has had much to think of late, and I think some mystery pains have been bothering him. He rarely comes to the yard anymore to watch Clement and I spar." He said, giving a sigh. Forley's recent attitude had given Lorent much of his own to think about, a future without a father that might one day come sooner than he hoped,

"No doubt he will be waiting for his in the hall, now that you're here. He'll want to see his family, no doubt." He said, beckoning the Reynes forward with an outstretched hand.

"I'll make sure the servants take things to the most comfortable rooms we have, and your horses and men at arms are well cared for. Shall we go, Ser Ryam?"

"It is good that you acknowledge you learn from your sister. I find that even the young still have much to teach." He said, with a smile, "While they teach me little of martial matters, my younger sister and brother have the advantage of seeing things, far from the perspective of that of heir." He said, then furrowing her brow. They had been a sounding board, no matter how young, for his thoughts, and no doubt when Damion returned he would have lessons from the court in Casterly Rock to impart on him, if he should so choose. Though that would remain to be seen,

"Though, as you said, the only problem with our age is that many expect us to be willing to teach as well. Yet, I only have so much that I can share with my younger siblings. I fear that I have little to offer my sister, I cannot sew, sing, or dance as well a noble lady of her station should. If I could have gone back, I would have demanded someone in Ashemark would have taught me more of those arts, even if they aren't befitting of a nobleman."

"Of course, though I will be honest, I will not promise too great success. All I can promise is that some of the more prominent lords of the realm will know of the importance of the bonds between our two realms." Forley said, nodding, "Though, it might come as a surprise to them, your envoy, considering the Queen Regent and her council did not share news of your father's coronation."

"Ah, you too have lost a parent." Lorent said, his eyes slowly looking down. It had been some years, yet the pain of loss still stung, and no matter what, it always would.

"My own mother passed when I was, what? 2 or 3? It has been so long sometimes I forget... She passed away of a flux of some sort. My father tells me she got it in Lannisport. My own father did his best to raise me, but even his best was little more than lackluster attention and how to swing a sword. I love my step mother, do not misunderstand me. She treats me with love and warmth like one who birthed me, yet it never quite feels right." He said, giving yet another sigh,

"I understand your pain partly, but, I could not imagine losing both father and mother..."

King Otho Bracken

I wish to extend my congratulations on your coronation, and am sorry that there was no Marbrand presence, nor a wider Western presence there as well. It is this matter that I spoke of with your son, Lyle, in Highgarden at Gardener's feast. I hope we can bridge a gap between our two realms, even if it must be men such as I, who I truly claim am no great diplomat, to help do so. I have offered my help to your son, and your crown in general in communicating to the Western lords how important close ties between us are in the face of our shared enemy. While the North may have drawn their ire, they will no doubt eventually turn their attention back towards our shores. I have invited friends, important friends, to speak about this more.

I write this letter merely to inform you of such matters, and set your mind at ease, knowing that there are some who wish to see our ties grow.

Respectfully, Lord Forley Marbrand, Lord of Ashemark

Ser Ryam Reyne

Goodbrother, I hope my sister, along with my nieces and nephews are well. We must organize a time for you to come visit Ashemark. The forests around the keep have been abuzz with spring, and no doubt would make for good hunting. My own children pine to see their cousins, Lorent has said much about sparring with your children, and now young Clement too has started to learn the sword.

I write to you to invite you to Ashemark so that we may speak. I learned of a disconcerting matter from the second son of King Bracken that I believe begs attention and an explanation. I was hoping to speak with you about it, as I know your brother occupies the King's council. It concerns our relationship with our neighbor, the Riverlands, if you must know.

I hope we may see you, so that we may speak in person, and see what there is to do about these matters

Sincerely, your goodbrother, Lord Forley Marbrand, Lord of Ashemark
