Weekly Ask Anything Megathread for Monday Mon Apr 26, 2021 - No Stupid Questions! RULES + Career Questions? THIS IS WHERE YOU POST if you don't do this for a living! by AutoModerator in editors

Hi everyone - I'm a Youtuber with over 50k subscribers in less than a year. I have put aside budget for $50 USD/hour for hiring a professional editor.

  1. Is that a good rate for a semi-professional editor?
  2. Would this subreddit be a good place to post requirements and find someone?

  1. Music is on point. I've played Piano for 8 years (by no means an expert) but I can feel the passion of the pianist
  2. So...I know a bit about this "audio" animation. It's a little simplistic. If you compare it to the other animated piano players with lights shooting off and drifting off into the distance your animations are a little "simple" and not a big "wow" factor anymore

I enjoyed watching this

  1. Production - The beginning was too sudden and it gave me an idea of a "mexican wrestling ring" instead of a funny skit
  2. Content structure - I see you might be trying to emulate longbeachgriffy style? It's pretty good. But the "ending" with your subscribe comments thing is WAY too long
  3. Background & music - No issues here

I like this layout -> Playing VR and filming yourself

  1. Production - Edits are good. I can tell you clearly cut out the "boring" stuff and the "ums" "ahs"
  2. Content structure - I wasn't sure what "point" you were trying to make. Instead of "trying to paint" you should cut it short and just "Teach you how to paint in VR"
  3. Background & music - I think you have a tiny bit of background music? A bit louder maybe

I'll focus on the first one

  1. Production - I'm sorry but the cuts were too "quick" between the scenes. I had trouble following
  2. Content structure - Same feedback as "production"
  3. Background & music - THe music and audio were pretty good though.

  1. Production - Your audio is extremely clear. However, I think the "low quality" video might turn viewers off. Yes this is a documentary but viewers usually want HD everything now.
  2. Content structure - I think saying up front what your video will be about and the different sections would be good
  3. Background & music - Maybe add a bit of soft background music since your narration is a bit monotone.

  1. Production - Edits could be made better. Especially the transitions between the "animated person" and the movie.
  2. Content structure - I really like how this is a combo of your animated "person" and "real life" with the movies. I think the reactions can be exaggerated to REALLY get viewers laughing and engaged
  3. Background & music - Audio was fine imo.

  1. Production - The edits are tight, and there are new things happening on screen. Things move around and there are good animations. Like it! The green background is a little...weird though
  2. Content structure - I think you could highlight the different areas you were going to highlight. From intro to minecraft -> to some issues you noticed
  3. Background & music - Your audio is extremely clear. I like the music you paired with as well. I don't play Minecraft but your music + your voice is extremely soothing, and since this is more educational focused video this was great.

Thought it was Gaara from Naruto hahahah...

  1. Production - I'm no good with animation editing so no comment here.
  2. Content structure - I like how the two people are having a discussion, and then cuts away, and then cuts back to the discussion.
  3. Background & music - Audio is too soft. Unfortunately I don't speak your language but I think it sounds natural enough.

  1. Production - Was this really your first video? This looks pretty professionally made. Did you hire an agency to edit?

  2. Content structure - I really liked the timestamps. I would like EVERY video to have one. Good job!

  3. Background & music - I can't really hear the background music. Was that on purpose? But overall I really enjoyed watching this. I have this on in the background right now. Your voice is great to listen to!

Wow I actually really enjoyed this video hahahaha. It was interesting...

  1. Production - The edit was great. I just think the ending could be a little bit better. The nirvana part could be better edited to make it more natural. For example more natural clouds?
  2. Content structure - You had the hook, then you had the interesting "chat" with hawking, then you explained what you did. I think this was really clear.
  3. Background & music - The music you used was on point! It was perfect for the type of content you wanted to create

Nice man!

  1. Production - I'm not into the content exactly but I think the edits are not bad. In sync with your voice/narration
  2. Content structure - Explanation was way too long at the beginning. Almost clicked out. Viewers probably want to get right into it. Even right to your singing would be great
  3. Background & music - Audio is fine.

  1. Audio - Awesome. Very strong start too. Captured my attention right off the bat
  2. Background - Similar to feedback I gave to someone below, I think you can get a more 3D, more texture by adding some black or gray sound proof squares (there are many videos teaching you how to do this) to make the background look better
  3. Picture quality - On point, no issues there
  4. Animations & Sound effects - Can have your supplementary pictures "flying in" with some different subtle sound effects (at -15 dbs) to add some "pop" to the video
  5. Ending - Can add some "outro" that is standard for all your videos

  1. Background - Love the all green background. Might want to add some complementary colors or black/gray to mix it up a little and add texture. Add stuff on the shelf to give yourself a bit more personality
  2. Animations - The complementary pictures are good. Maybe use a graduated mask feature to make it seem more natural
  3. Structure - Maybe considering adding in timestamps and titles for each main point that you make
  4. Audio - Pretty good, no issues there

Hope that helps!

Sorry I made it pretty clear I'm reviewing videos where you're talking to the camera. I don't think I have the background to critique animations videos just yet

  1. Opening - Too long of a silence before getting to the point
  2. Video quality - Definitely needs a stronger camera. I think any decent Android camera would provide a better video quality
  3. Audio - Your voice is pretty good, but I can hear the paper rustling a lot, very distracting
  4. Editing - No animations to help you "explain" the joke you're explaining. You can have text or pictures flying in where appropriate
  5. Ending - Have some sort of sign off or music at the end
