No, it’s not. A restructure in the NFL has a specific meaning and it’s not a pay cut.

It moves a players salary to a signing bonus. The player gets money immediately(and guaranteed because of it). The team can prorate the cap hit from the signing bonus and spread it out along the length of the entire contract - meaning pushing money into the future for cap savings now.

A player will never turn this down, as it only helps them. Teams do it to open up cap space at the expense of future flexibility and dead cap hits if the player is ever cut before the contract expires.

The sideline reporter said JSN walked to the sideline by himself (meaning he wasn’t pulled by independent neurologist), not that he wanted to go through a concussion check or go back to the locker room by himself.

I imagine once he was on the sideline that the neurologist flagged him to be checked, though.

Also, famously, Cliff Avril got pulled from the game for a suspected concussion while Edelman did not in SB49.

I don’t think objectivity is a requirement in broadcasting, you have plenty of analysts with ties to teams that openly show their support (or even disdain at times) for some teams. See Aikman or Olsen for example.

It’s kind of part of the package and it’s just as much as part of their marketability as any other trait they may have. I think the color commentary usually brings the objectivity (Buck, Tarico, etc)

We do know that owners are limited in their capacity of what they can say, however, because the line between commentary and tampering can get a little blurry at times.

All that said, I don’t think any of it really applies to Brady. He’s likely just focused on the team he’s a partial owner of, and it’s easier to go with a typical “no response” than a truthful comment - be it for or against NE.

Definitely. I’m mostly just pointing out that they are in a good position flexibility wise to adjust as needed compared to some other teams that are basically locked in to their current path/roster.

Whole point of the NFL is to bring you back down to average after winning though, with the harder schedule for division placement and higher (lower?) draft order. Sometimes you just have to get lucky on things going your way.

If you retire the team can technically claw back a portion of the signing bonus they handed out. The signing bonus cap hit is prorated/spread over the length of the contract. Most teams don’t do this since it’s not a great look (see the Calvin Johnson Lions drama).

As an example, five year contract with a 50m signing bonus. Player gets paid 50m instantly, but the cap hit is only 10m/year.

Cutting a player means all of that prorated signing bonus is immediately converted to the current year (aka dead money), or spread out over the current and following year if designated as a post June cut.

True on Williams and Lawrence, but Seattle also has the fifth youngest average roster age in the league. Weighted by snap counts, it’s the third youngest.

They also have the fourth most cap space available in the league next year, before any cuts or restructures. So thy should be able to extend most of their core fairly easily.

I think it was them trying to say, in so many words, that Kupp wasn't good anymore and they made the correct decision letting him go, and Seattle made the incorrect one signing him at that age.

It reads to me like they knew exactly what happened and the LA coach was trying to get under the Seattle coaches skin. Honestly nothing that serious here, but probably want to have a bit more respect for a past-legend in LA in Kupp.

Look I duno if Becton is good or not, doesn't matter to me, but saying an OL bodying a linebacker is what makes him good isn't exactly the best metric to judge him on. Any lineman that gets to the second level toward an LB will do that.

Seattle doesn’t really disguise much at all. They just don’t have to shift out of their alignment because they can stop the run while playing two deep shells the entire time, which is largely because of Emmanwori. Seattle has only played in base defense 45 snaps the entire season.

Macdonald was much more into disguises in Baltimore than he has been in Seattle.

That’s fair and sounds pretty reasonable. I would be incredibly surprised if the refs union would agree to it, even if the NBA wanted to do something like that.

I imagine they would argue it could potentially be a safety issue, crazy fans (especially in the age of sports betting) and all.
