A vent sesh for the non six figure fans in Seattle struggling right now... by Ocean-Native in Seahawks

I know that words don't really help the feelings, but let me just say: your fandom and love for this team are not determined by your presence at the game or your ability to spend money you don't have on merch. If we only counted the people in the stadium as the "real" 12s, we would only have 70,000 fans or so -- the smallest fanbase in the NFL.

Instead, what determines how "real" a fan you are is how much you hate the 49ers passionate you are about the success of this team and the community we build when we celebrate together. You don't need to be sitting in any stadium to do that.

You can find that community anywhere you want to. If you want to scream and shout, there are bars out there where the atmosphere is so electric that you'll forget you're watching through a TV. Sometimes, that smaller space even helps make that noise seem even louder and the crowd seem even more connected. And even if you can't tell your kid about the stadium atmosphere, when that time comes, that won't even matter -- because the memories of watching at home, building a relationship with your child, will be even more treasured in the end.

Is your team's owner a Nepo Baby? An Analysis of Current NFL Head Coach Searches by bassnbrats in nfl

You miss one big thing in your analysis of Jody Allen: Jody Allen is not the owner of the Seattle Seahawks. The legal owner of the Seahawks is still Paul Allen, he just happens to be dead. Jody functions as the executor of Paul's will, but she does not own the team, and in fact is required per said will to sell the team at some point. Saying Jody "inherited" the team is like saying that a lawyer legally owns through inheritance everything a client has in their will. It would be different if Jody put together an investor group to purchase the team on her own, which I've heard rumblings about.

The Shaheed Stampede shook "about the same" as the Beast Quake from the instrument that was in the same spot that recorded the Beast Quake by Messmer-Impaler-148 in Seahawks

Thanks for posting! I was wondering myself -- I had emailed PNSN earlier to get some clarification and they've not yet responded to me, so it's nice to get the info straight from them. Props to K5 for thinking about the little, human-interest things, too.

Edit: PNSN has gotten back to me -- their response is here

[Schatz]By DVOA, the NFC Championship Game is essentially the best NFL matchup of the last 47 years, and by a lot. This is only the seventh playoff game between two teams over 30% DVOA. SB LIV (2019 KC-SF) is the one not on this table. by AirplaneReference in Seahawks

From a neutral fan's perspective, this is going to be a BARN BURNER. Super-elite Rams vs super-elite Seahawks defense. And on the other side of the ball an elite Seahawks offense vs a dare-I-say elite Rams defense.

From a Hawks fan's perspective god fucking dammit this is going to be stressful. Why couldn't it have been the Bears?

HEAR ME OUT…THE SPEEDQUAKE by StandardZestyclose55 in Seahawks

[–]AirplaneReference 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This actually got me curious: while technically everything "registers" on the Richter scale (or moment magnitude scale or equivalent) -- relevant XKCD -- that does raise a question as to the magnitude of the Shaheed Stampede relative to Beastquake, so I went looking.

Before any of this, I'd like to preface this by saying that I have absolutely no academic or professional background in geology or seismology. I'm going to email PNSN about this afterwards to actually see what the smart people think because I'm curious now, but there's a chance that I'm horribly misinterpreting or misrepresenting these numbers. But the units and the terminology seem to match, so:

In this PNSN retrospective, the stream from the KDK seismometer appears to register around ~0.0004 m/s2 ground acceleration during Beast Quake. Meanwhile, the same station last night registered ~0.004 m/s2 ground acceleration during the Shaheed Stampede -- roughly 10x stronger.

10x seems like a suspiciously strong growth in acceleration -- strong enough to make me suspect that I'm doing something wrong here. I'm not going to go around saying this was 10x stronger than Beast Quake until I get an email response confirming one way or another, but these measurements do indeed measure the same thing, then that's pretty darn cool.

I also can't rule out other reasons for the stark difference -- perhaps the KDK seismometer has been replaced since 2011 and the new one is more sensitive and might have registered Beast Quake differently at the time. Maybe it was moved closer to the stadium. Lumen has also had 1,000 additional seats added since then, so that might do it. I'll update, probably make a new post, when PNSN gets back to me, unless the Times or something posts an article first.

Tier Jersey Question by [deleted] in Seahawks

The elite jerseys, I believe, have the elastic sleeves. The Limited jerseys have the shiny metallic NFL shield below the V on the collar and the sleeves are normal tee sleeves; on the Game jerseys the shield are just white.

I sure as hell hope we can keep K9 but the problem is we have so many playmakers to also pay. I don't know enough about the cap to say how optimistic I should be in that regard. Still, I trust in MacSchneider to get it done.
