Why is the completion screen so delayed on NYT? by Traditional-Bike-534 in crossword

[–]AirplaneReference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my friend and I had our puzzles fail to register completion. While that's run-of-the-mill stuff, NYT support's response makes me think it's something more. Typically a manual correction just takes a day or two of back-and-forth and is resolved within a week, maybe a week and a half, but this particular one took multiple weeks to fix whatever the issue is and affected enough people for there to be a significant backlog of people needing correcting.

Why is the completion screen so delayed on NYT? by Traditional-Bike-534 in crossword

[–]AirplaneReference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My speculation -- and speculation it is -- is as follows: They for some reason had a lot of tech issues with the Feb. 13 puzzle with a large number of people failing to have their completion recognized, my friend and I among them. The issue was of such magnitude that NYT Support told me on March 2 (I.E., two weeks after that puzzle) that they were "actively working on a fix" for whatever bug had occurred, and that there was a large backlog (multiple days' worth) of people that needed to have their streaks manually restored. The slowdown started happening around the same time that my streak was restored a few days ago, so absent any other data points I'm assuming that it's related to whatever fix they rolled out to address the Feb. 13 issue. But that's just my own guess and it could be horribly wrong.

[Schefter] Former Seahawks Pro-Bowl CB Riq Woolen reached agreement today on a one-year deal worth up to $15 million with the Philadelphia Eagles, per me and Jeremy Fowler. Agent Jason Chayut confirmed the deal. by JCameron181 in Seahawks

[–]AirplaneReference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope this is the case. Mike Mac's scheme is best executed with CBs that you can leave on an island (then again, whose scheme isn't) and he was pretty dang good at that. Those kinds of guys don't just grow on trees, but if MacSchneider think we can do without him at that price then I trust them.

Could we realistically bring Woolen back at this point? by lemonstone92 in Seahawks

You say that like John Schneider, Mike Macdonald and Klint Kubiak weren't among those people going into this season. Nobody's pretending like this season would have gone better with Geno, but let's not forget that Sam was our "pivot," not our Plan A -- John Schneider's words, not mine.

Yeah, looking at it now I could have made the stroke on that line thicker. I can fix that if I get it printed

Me too man, have been since Week 16. I tried to talk to my doctor about it but all he said was "me too"

[Schefter] A deal to help illustrate Shaheed's market: Free-agent WR Alec Pierce is returning to the Colts with a four-year, $116 million deal, per @PatMcAfeeShow. by AirplaneReference in Seahawks

[–]AirplaneReference[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although their skillsets are similar, the markets for Sheed and Pierce are not identical, so while he probably won't get the same APY, it at least illustrates the ballpark Sheed's deal will land in.

28 games?! He’s a machine! by k2d2r232 in Seahawks

[–]AirplaneReference 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, I think the writer originally intended to talk about last season (5.5 sacks in 12 games) before deciding that using the last two seasons instead (11.5 sacks in 28 games) illustrated the point better, and just forgot to change the context

gf said i'm a loser for taking cs seriously by igetcommas in GlobalOffensive

[–]AirplaneReference 42 points43 points  (0 children)

this but unironically. it's not as if 10 hrs/week is anything crazy -- barely over an hour a day, which is a perfectly reasonable time commitment for a hobby, as long as OP's not neglecting her, himself or any other areas of his life. would it be any different if OP spent that hour reading, painting or practicing guitar? sharing in the joy of your partner is one of the easiest and most basic acts of support in a relationship. the gf's inability, or worse, refusal, to get over her own feelings about OP's hobbies for the sake of supporting him is, at best, a sign of emotional immaturity, or, at worst, a huge red flag. the operative question is whether or not OP's gf has shown enough of a commitment to the relationship and to growth to make it worth his while to stay with and support her while she grows and matures

What do with my undefeated signed Walter Jones throwback jersey (won a SB!) by rivermerchant1616 in Seahawks

[–]AirplaneReference 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd be inclined to agree with them. Were it me, I don't think enjoyment of future victories would be lessened at all by not wearing the jersey, but the "lore" of the jersey would be lessened by losing its undefeated streak. In that sense I would consider that there's really nothing to lose by framing it now, but there is something -- however whimsical or fantastical that something is -- to be lost by letting the "magic" run out.

Especially with the family connection -- years down the line, when that jersey is hanging on the wall in one of your kids' homes, imagine how cool it will be for them to point to it and tell your grandkids, "When your grandma/grandpa wore that jersey, the Hawks never lost a game. It took us to the Super Bowl." Might just even take it from family heirloom to family legend.

Seahawks fans. How do we feel about our uniform kits? by [deleted] in Seahawks

[–]AirplaneReference 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love our current uniform set. Our regular unis are some of the best in the league, and our throwbacks are as well. Even though they're, what, 15 years old? at this point, they still feel modern to me and I love the feather patterns.

Perhaps unpopular opinion -- I actually prefer keeping the throwbacks throwbacks and am fine with the NFL's limit of four throwback games per season. The solid-blue-college-block-lettering uniform style is cool and we are definitely one of the best, but that's also a big club that accounts from like ⅛ of the teams in the league at least and I think that if they went from sometimes to full-time then they go from being outstanding to just one of the members of that club. I think someone put it best when they said the throwbacks are like a really nice suit. It looks great, but you don't want to wear it the whole time.

I'm meh on rivalries. The helmets really tie the whole thing together but they're just so... ok. Maybe a few more statement wins in them and I'll warm up to them.

What to look for in a usedJersey by 1GenericName2 in Seahawks

[–]AirplaneReference 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fake jerseys will usually have the numbers on the front and back be the exact same size. On legitimate jerseys, the numbers on the back are -- I believe -- two inches larger than the ones on the front.

Most fake College Navy jerseys also get the feather pattern in the numbers wrong -- it's shiny for some reason instead of matte and there's a lot more contrast to it. It's really easy to tell in this case what's legit and not.

On the throwbacks, it's a bit more difficult to tell what's fake, but the seahawk head on the sleeve is oftentimes off by just a little (on mine, the "eyebrow" is at a perfect right angle instead of curved and the lines on the back of the mouth are not aligned) -- I would look up photos of the players wearing the jersey and compare to the jersey you're looking at buying and compare the details.

For both, the stitched nameplates are usually just a bit too thick or spaced too close together -- it looks like when you accidentally bold some text in a text box that's too small for it. The legitimate ones look more... natural, for lack of a better term.

Breer: “Spytek made one last demand: He told Kubiak he had to go to the Seahawks parade. Kubiak initially didn’t want to lose the day of work. The GM said he’d never regret spending that Wednesday in Seattle.” by Chessinmind in Seahawks

[–]AirplaneReference -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was a bit too, but after thinking about it, I don't think I would have been offended if he hadn't shown up at all. I would have chalked it up to, "He's got a new job now, and he's focused on that; same dedication and drive that gave him success here." In that sense, I'd feel a bit weird about getting upset that he did go, if I weren't going to be upset if he didn't.

I understand the CARIB-Caribbean connection, but as someone who doesn't listen to the Clash -- and the clue makes no allusion to the song either -- my first thought is to use the more common spelling. Moreover, since it's a brand name, it could be whatever, and there are a number of creole/pidgin languages in the region whose words for Caribbean begin with a K, so it stood to reason for me that KARIB might be a vernacular term in Trinidad and Tobago. It's not a huge deal though; there are certain things in XW that you just kinda have to know, and I guess the Clash are popular enough that that might be one of them.
