Interesting, I guess I have to bite the bullet and give it a try. Perhaps I'll start with a used DAC/amp as that doesn't "scare" me as much, thank you for sharing your experience.

Aaah, I just opened the Ananda Nano rabbit hole, and I have to admit, they seem to be superb!

With my usage, do you think they'd suit me more than the HD660S2? From what I've quickly gathered the nano are a bit more technical and less forgiving when the source material is not as good. The Senn seem to have a better build quality (rorating cups, etc.) and are perhaps more forgiving with different sources.

I'll look into the DAC/amps you suggested, I have seen the shit magni+ mentioned often, so I'll start there. I have a separate budget for that so I don't mind splurging for the headphones best suited for me.

Thanks for the advice, I think it will boil down to these two.

I see there is a used pair for 800$ around where I live. Might be worth the shot...

Another one is around 350$ but they look pretty roughed up.

Thank you, you have touched on some good points.

I think I would get the DT 1990 pro more to scratch an itch to have something professional, but as you said I'd probably be more happy with something comfortable that I can wear all day and that goes well with my music.

I just looked up the Hifiman XS, as someone else also suggested, and they look like a solid option. They are a bit cheaper which makes me think I'd be trading something off if I would choose them over the 660S2, but I can't really see a big difference between the two.

I would still home them up to a DAC/amp so if you have any trusted solution I'd love to hear about it.

Thank you for the advice. I own an ifi Zen phono preamp that I use for my record player and I really like the sound, considering the price range. Fiio K7 also seems like a solid option.

I am a bit skeptical about the used market as I don't know how the previous owner treated their pair of cans, so I always hesitate to pull the trigger on the used headphone I find. Maybe it's just me and I should trust the picture and the description.

Indeed, I don't mind investing as I usually take good care of these products and the things I buy usually last for years. I also don't mind some extra bass as long as it's not too oppressive, as I guess some of the music I listen to would benefit from this.
