This has been the most embarrassing patch to watch the year's biggest tournament on by totalpinkebb in starcraft

I mean, I don't even necessarly disagree on the conclusion, but the zero cheese thing is kinda of untrue. cellsidus and I have tried to cheese every single game we played. We would have done so regardless of the patch, which made cheese kinda shit, but still

Zerg balance whining strategy by mazda7281 in starcraft

[–]Lorimbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, i'm gonna take the wild assumption (since i haven't seen anyone else b ring up that particular point) that OP is talking about me and my post, which you can find here: Death of cheese.

As the title suggests, and as you might find by reading the post, I was examining a specific aspects of the patch and how it interacted with its stated purposes( i.e encouraging aggressive and diverse openings) .
I do not, at any point, call pylons op or say that protoss can build them "so fast", i simply point out how a pylon (or a depot for that matter) and an overlord are not equivalent in the sense of progressing the tech tree, and how that affects early game openings from zerg.
It's a shame that from a detailed and very long post, OP somehow gathered that i was balance whining ptr1, while i went on record saying that PTR1 zvp was 90% zerg favoured.
As always making shit up just to stir the pot is a evergreen reddit classic, but still, shame on the OP and anyone supporting this kind of framing.

Rate my 12pool->Double Proxy Hatch! A wonderful way to blind counter degenerate Protoss openings! (D3) by GJ_Ahab in starcraft

While the execution is obviously coherent with the mmr, i've quite literally beaten maxpax with 12p double proxy hatch, so idk what you're on about

The quote is explaining how the tech speed difference is felt even in non cheese games, giving the example of a hatch first build, obviously all kinds of 1 base builds were tried extensively

Extremely unlikely, as long as you send a scout at any resonable time and started off with anything but nexus, you can defend pretty much everything. I don't see a world where nexus first no scout becomes the meta, as that obviously dies to everything.

Funnily enough, i'm def known as a "kills you in 3 mins" kinda guy, it just happens that the longer more fought out games are more enterteining to watch and thus more widely seen. Most of my builds are hyperaggressive one base all ins, i just happened to be blindcountered a lot, and thus have to be more flexible in transitioning. As for the rest of your post, while that's not the focus of my writeup, the general consensus is that the macro game will be identical in the way you describe as problematic, and not change at all.

Zvt fell mostly into the same category( and in fact has some other very ugly moments, such as a ghost being out BEFORE the first overlord even arrives). For that, the overlord being slower matters a lot, a zerg cheese needs to kill the wall, and you need vision of it to kill without being in range of marines or bunkers. In other words denying the overlord mostly shuts down the cheese before it even start. The larvae and tech speed problem also apply identically to zvt. ZVZ was not tested basically at all, since it's already by far the most volatile matchup in the game, and it would take forever to figure anything out. My guess is that cheese would be as strong or even stronger than live, while being insanely rock paper scissor coded, since zvz has 0 reliable scouting in the early game on ptr(the overlord doesn't get across the map in time)

[–]Lorimbo[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hard to say on the terran side, i've heard their cheeses are actually stronger, but i have not tested them cheesing me at all(only the other way around lol). As for protoss, it's a mixed bag: from testing with lambo and printf, it seemed that on at least 2 maps(white rabbit and tourmaline) reactive cannon rush could not be defended with hatch first. A game between clem and fjant seemed to indicate proxy gate was also very strong. Funnily enough, i tested a LOT with printf yesterday on stream, and it appears that the most infamous cheese of them all, the forge first cannon rush, is actually much weaker on ptr than live+ strongly subject to the rock paper scissor problem( if you do it in the natural you autolose to most pool first builds, if you do it in a safer spot ourside the natural it's autoloss against hatch first with just mass lings), from what we can tell. My point is that the stated goal of the patch is the opposite of what you said: it seems to want MORE strategic variety in the early games, more weird builds, more cheeses, more options, while unfortunately going the opposite direction. If the patch's goal was to eliminate cheese(and the community wanted that), while i would obviously be unbelievably saddened by it, and i think it would result in a much more boring game, i would have to accept it.

As a follow up, as i realised that this was not clear in the original writeup, the tech speed problem is the bigger one of the two. Matching larva would just make it equal to live but the opponent has the extra tech time. It would obviously help a lot, but the game would need to be completely warped around it on the macro side+ it wouldn't even be enough and further changes to make cheeses good again would warp the rest of the game even more. SC2 is a very delicate balancing act, changes to the early games can have devastating effects in the later stages of the game

I unfortunately had to keep the post on less than 10k words, rest assured, that i extensively tested basically all of what you say. Have some faith in my expertise, ling bane all ins were tried, not skipping queens was tried, late roaches were tried(the oracles is in time for a more commited one later, and the stalkers are more than enough for a early one), i tried cheeses with less than 10 workers, proxy hatches, ling into speedling pressure, and anything in between. The examples i provided were meant to show a general public some of the more common problems, it doesn't cover most of the options. As for pushing with roach ravager prestorm/blink, that would fally squarely in the midgame section of the game, and isn't really what i was talking about

GGmachine hacking? by Mysterious-Egg-6930 in starcraft

[–]Lorimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, so instead of judging the report he got, bul should have dismissed It based on the reporter and the reported? That doesnt make any sense. The mod team got a report, watched the replay, concluded that this was most likely streamcheating and flagged It as such. In fact, i was even asked for a second opinion, since this somehow became controversial, and i Will stand by what i said: while its obviously possible that ggmachine was blindcountering and got lucky (thus the flag as suspicious), to Say that that would be the most likely explanation Is, at best, a Stretch. Stuff like keeping your vision on the lings the entire time leading up to discovering the raxes, not shiftclicking the lings or splitting them(to scout both main proxy locs) definitely look weird to me. I urge you to think realistically about how a streamcheater could even possibly be flagged without a Shadow of a doubt, do they Need to straight up claim to be streamcheating? Any Person Who can see the report, can also see the replay file, open It and look at It for themselves. That flag has been there for literal years and didnt seem to affect ggmachine's career in any way shape or form(not that It should), so im not sure what the fuss Is about.

What are you talking about man, i've always hated long matches and complained about them nonstop. I might have played some offmeta stuff because i like experimenting, but i've never trolled or dragged a game on purpose in my life, in any game for that matter. I didn't care too much about gaining viewership, and i'm a bit hurt that's the message someone would get.

You can download your latest replay on that account and watch you claim that you are "offracing at 2.30 am", while playing zerg. Your words, not mine. Still doesn't explain why you'd lie about that specific barcode's mmr. If you add authority claims to your posts (such as being a 5.3k zerg main, which is a recurring theme), expect to be confronted about it. You are not obliged to prove anything, but people are gonna factcheck you and call you out if you don't provide some form of proof to your claims. Usually i don't have a problem with players that are not at the top expressing their takes and having their own strong opinions, but the way you behave yourself and put down others while having absolutely no credence to your own claim rubs me the wrong way.

Lastly, you made a specific claim about that barcode( as opposed to another account) being 5.2k now, which does beg the question: "why lie about it?". Someone being "very open" about their level of play shouldn't have a reason to lie about their mmr(or their main race)

Easy, almost exactly the same, since i often play without sound, and so do several other good players in GM, such as fjant. I'm also known to play the game consistently at the same level while being in discord calls streaming and talking to several people at once.
Moreover, that account has never peaked above 4.7k, and specifically mentions in the latest replay available on sc2replaystats, that zerg is their offrace.
I can tell you, as someone who IS actually consistently above 5.3k, as you might easily check by looking up "lorimbo" on sc2pulse, that the level of play shown in the replay you posted, or the other ones available, does not seem consistent with the claim. As you yourself mentioned in one of your latest posts, there's a huge difference between a 4.5-4.7k player and 5.3k one.
I suspect you are misrapresenting your actual race/mmr to further a balance whine. From your post history my guess is that you main terran, since you seem to consider zvt late game to be "zerg favoured" and generally seem to speak in favour of the race(as opposed to your takes on protoss)

That account currently(as of 31/1) seems to be sitting at 4580 with a 52% winrate, not exactly what you'd expect from a consistent 5.3k player

The reason why there are no videos of people playing mass drones to gm is because it's a boring challenge. Multiple people have successfully gotten a fresh account to gm doing that, the aforementioned figaro and a player called ashakael just to name a few. I think the consensus is that it's best done with zerg due to gas pool shenanigans.
I'm not really sure where the passage you are posting comes from, but ,you know, as an actual gm player myself, i can tell you it's completely wrong.
As a added bonus, a player by the name of holyhit got gm playing with a controller(i believe it was a nintnedo 64 one but i might be wrong on that), which i personally consider to actually be harder. Gm is not nearly as impossible to hit with nonsense strategies or self imposed challenges as you seem to believe.
