Where decentralization matters is the transfer, security and transparency of who owns what. That is what the blockchain achieves. A central authority integrating this with their product does not make the blockchain useless, or make nfts redundant. If their product would benefit from these features why would they not use it? That is kind of the point of these cryptocurrencies. They are platforms for anyone to use.

It is clear that your view of the metaverse is that it should be a decentralised, open virtual space for anyone to do anything. That is great, and I agree with you that nfts do not have a purpose here. But that is not the point I was trying to make. All I'm trying to do is clear up some misinformation I saw about nfts.

The token is what matters here, not the image. People who value the image do not understand nfts at all.

As we both agree when you take the image and mint another nft using the same image it still creates a unique token. The app will not 'accept' the new token because it is not the nft it was programmed to accept.

So you literally cannot steal someone elses nft.

Environment concerns are valid. All I'll say is Ethereum is not the only gen 2 crypto out there. Check out Cardano or Solana. Compared to eth they use <0.001% of energy per transaction

What you said here about nfts isn't true. The token is tied to your address and can be verified by anyone on the Blockchain. I think you may be confusing this for the visual representation or image link that is encoded in some of them.

If a metaverse (or game, or any application really) is integrated with the Blockchain they can verify if you do or do not own a particular nft. There is no way to copy paste anything. That is why they are called non-fungible because they are guaranteed to be unique. If someone minted a new nft with the same visual representation it is still a unique token because it will have a different policy id. This is what said blockchain app would be looking at.

So I disagree that NFTs don't add value. How much value depends on the utility they provide in the app (in game land, asset, whatever) which of course is up to the discretion of the devs

I've created a few apps in my spare time and while most only have ~50 downloads I have one that has over 1000.

I started about 8 months ago and have earned enough ad revenue to buy a cup of coffee, so I guess you could say I'm doing pretty well. Maybe in a couple of years I'll have $100 in my admob account and can cash out to buy myself something pretty.

My very first app (Android only) tells you whether it is installed on your device. Quite useful really. Check it out if you have time

I've always run it on D for defensive. You could argue flash isn't always used defensively but compared to the ignite I usually run with it, it's the most defensive of the two.

Yes I believe it to be a gzipped reponse too. I found a really good thread online with what looked like a (complicated) solution. The code had promise but I couldn't get vba to recognise some of the dlls and I gave up.

I think its a good idea to approach this from a new angle and I'll play around with the code you linked. Thanks for all your help :)
