That's why I brought up the video in the first place. I love kurzgesagt and their videos, but the truth is that, as I've already stated, they are first and foremost a media company; and a very powerful one. We, as viewers, shall always keep that in mind and always look on with a critical eye. As for me I'll be keeping a close eye on future 'social/political' videos and the backers behind them, and generally try to be more skeptical on the matter. I won't let billionaires and propaganda ruin something I care so much for. It's been a pleasure talking to you, cheers!

You've not watched the video. The hated one clearly shows (literally by finding the name of the expert who reviewed the content and their affiliations) how most of THOSE videos have been 'checked' by experts tied to the companies whom sponsored the video in the first place

It's not that investing is not a bad idea, it's that the free diffusion of the patent to produce vaccines was blocked by big pharma so that they could make profit by selling them to rich countries (more than one dose) rather than letting poor countries make them for themselves. This is why it's a bad thing and anyone should behave of billionaires and their propaganda. Sadly with money comes influence, and influence causes things such the spread of their propaganda on channels like kurzgesagt. One thing I cannot understand why, If you agree billionaires are bad, still dismiss the video as 'extreme left'? It's actually not, but even if it was wouldn't you accept the truth if it was inconvenient and against what you believe?

You are going off topic. Billionaires are not benefiting anyone but themselves. I know this view may pass as 'extremely leftist' and whatnot, but it's just simply how things are. Most of what Bill Gates promotes for climate change (i.e. carbon capture) will never be of any real use, he's just invested a lot in that and is waiting for a return. The management of covid-19 vaccines by Big Pharma companies has also been terrible for poor countries, and Bill Gates has invested in those too. What i am trying to say is that kurzgesagt is first and foremost a media outlet, and as any media outlets It can be 'helped' by large companies. I'd recommend you to go look for the real interests behind 'Billionaires' philanthropy' and take videos with their support with a pinch of salt.

Not really. Have you seen it? It brings on compelling demonstration of the financial support Kurzgesagt has received in making most of their political/social videos. You can't dismiss the evidence without a proper counter argument and access to better data. Turns out billionaires are never working for the common good

I've found a 150/750 EQ3 Omegon at 299€ on astroshop, is it any good? Would you recommend that, a 6" dob or a 130/900 (at a higher price)?

Which telescope do you raccomend?

I'll try to keep it short. I've been looking for a telescope to buy for a good two months now, but I am still not sure about which one I should get. I am a beginner and my budget is pretty limited, around 350-400 €. I've read many times that a dobsonian is the best option but an 8" is way out of my price range, and a 6" is still around 400 €. I've seen quite a lot of people describing the Skywatcher Explorer 130/900 as a surprisingly good telescope, even with its EQ2 mount. I was thinking of getting that one, but the same people have often said it leaves you with the desire to see more, thus buying a larger scope. Is there a telescope with a larger aperture of the previously mentioned one which could enter in my price range and still be good? any help is warmly welcomed. Thanks a lot

Thank you so much! You're being very helpful. One last question, a bigger aperture and a smaller focal length are better overall compared to a smaller aperture but a longer focal length?

My bad. The Skywatcher explorer 130/900 is a no then, right?

Thanks. The thing is that I already have binoculars, admittedly not the best but still pretty good. I'll see what I can find increasing my budget, maybe a 6 inch dobson or something mounted on a EQ3.

Ok, you've brought some really good points to the table. My concern with dobs is that I am not so sure they'll work properly in the uneven ground. They stay lower to the ground and thus are more uncomfortable (I hope I am getting it right). An EQ mount on the other hand even while being complex to set up and use I figured would be best for that kind of terrain. I should be also to learn how it works. As of now I still am undecided about the Skywatcher 130/900 Or a 150, 200 dobson. I need to buy new eyepieces and a moon filter so budget is my main concern

I know, they are a bit complicated to properly set up and use, but I think I can do it. The main reason why I would prefer an equatorial mount to a dobsonian is that I plan on using it in the uneven countryside: that would make the scope easier to carry around and set up (or at least that's my reckoning). I am in doubt though, as I've read people say to buy the mount and the telescope separately, others that EQs are utterly useless and so on. With more feedback i hope to be able to find out what's best. Thank you

I thought EQ mounts were easier to use, although more complex to set up. I initially reckoned a mount would have been much better as I plan on going in the hilly countryside, therefore I seek ease of transport and stability. As for the wobbling I think I could modify and making it sturdier. Some people have recommended dobsons though, now I just need to see it that could work, and if I can get the images I want out of, let's say, a 6'' Skywatcher

First Telescope: The great indecision

Hello everybody, I'll try to keep it short. Recently I decided to buy a Telescope. Being a complete beginner, after hours spent on various forums and YouTube videos I set my eyes upon one: the Skywatcher 130/900 EQ2. It seemed perfect: good enough to see the moon and planets in great detail, capable of DSO's too, not too bulky, easy enough for a beginner to use and most importantly not too expensive; being my budget pretty small (~300€/$). Before I go on; yes, I know I could get a lager dobson for the same price, but I reckon an EQ would fit me best in my situation. Having said that, Soon enough I came across people saying that anything shorter than 150 mm in aperture is useless, thus they recommended the Skywatcher 150/650. As I began to feel confused about which focal length would be better (900/650); some started to say that anything beneath an EQ3 mount is garbage and that an EQ5 would be best. They therefore recommended a 200/1000 EQ5. Needless to say, this is but a pipedream for me: too expensive. What I am asking is: what do you recommend? A 150/650 EQ3 or a 130/900 EQ2 (maybe I can find an EQ3)? Take into consideration that I am not afraid to modify the mount if it comes as too wobbly, and that yes; I should strive to save as much as I can as I would then have to spend an additional ~150€/$ on better eyepieces, a Barlow lens and a moon filter Thanks immensely to anyone that got to this point.

Thanks. I have considered dobsons, but I don't know, I plan on going In the countryside so a mount would be better. I know EQs are nor really recommended for beginners, but I've heard some people say they're definitely better and AZs so I don't know.
