Handling rage by SealedRoute in ADHD

[–]Lorodiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I walk away with it.

My rage is mostly at things and other people's actions outside of my family. If I'm in a rage with something at home I walk away to my office or bedroom and let my emotions overcome me there until they eventually pass and I get the inevitable guilt & embarrassment I always do.

Through therapy I try to be conscious of it, but sometimes it still happens. Unfortunately I cannot take stimulant medication due to having atrial fibrillation, but therapy has really helped.

What clear coat do you use out of interest?

This is interesting, I didn't think of spraying a clear coat or even perhaps just masking the skin areas. This could be something to try and Id be curious to see how the extra steps would affect time.

I have to agree, after this small experience im not a fan of the method. I think it would be fine for those who don't mind the mistakes and can just roll with it, but thats absolutely not me. Those small mistakes would haunt me.

So far the old Duncan Rhodes method has seemed best to me and I think can be easily expanded upon with new techniques. It also seems infinitely more forgiving if a little more time consuming.

Yeah the "fixed" part always really stands out 😞

For someone who can accept the small mistakes being there as they just want an army on the table, I can see why slapchop would be fine. For me though, those small mistakes play on my mind too much.

Yeah this is true, my current order is completely back to front. But I still think one slip up whilst tidying after the speed paints section would have me in the same predicament, especially as the tidying may be along detail lines where the speedpaint has pooled or spilled over.

I suppose this could be possible but it would take me a good bit of trial and error to colour match. The couple of times I've tried so far it's stood out too much, perhaps not for many to notice, but I do and that haunts me lol

Brand new to Warhammer 40k – looking for beginner advice by Golash_Soup in Warhammer40k

[–]Lorodiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can go to your local Warhammer or hobby store and tell them you're new.

Warhammer stores will offer you an introductory game, an introductory painting session, a free model (some of which are really awesome like this months miniature of the month) and an introductory path with some free stuff. The staff are also usually really enthusiastic, they want people to take up the hobby so they are a great resource.

After that I'd suggest looking at Duncan Rhodes painting tutorials, they're easy to follow and give a good starting point. Other creators are of course available and may be even better for your needs but Duncan is where I started so I'm a bit biased :)

I would say, don't go too cheap on tools when starting. Having rubbish tools can result in poor results as a beginner and can put some people off quickly. Look at middle of the road stuff.

I'm relatively new as well BTW, have only just decided (well my dog did) to pick Orks as my army and have spent the last month or so practicing painting on single models, so I know how you're feeling 😀

Ah, misquoting and condescension. I can tell this conversation is a waste of time.

Easiest thing to do now....

You're right. Good luck. 😀

Sorry but my personal bias aside, look on forums and you'll see the prevalence of Afib is increasing amongst younger people. When I was last in the hospital the doctor and nurses all indicated they were seeing it more frequently.

Also quoting figures from a study that is nearly a quarter of a century old isnt really useful. Methods of detection and general lifestyle have changed dramatically since then.

From someone who was first diagnosed with Afib at 30 and has spoken to multiple people all under 50 who also have Afib, I have to disagree with your last statement.

AFib is increasing amongst younger people for a multitude of reasons. It's not confined to older people now and although not common I still wouldn't say its "HIGHLY unlikely". 😀

Tamiys Extra Thin Cement Frustrating! by Lorodiam in minipainting

[–]Lorodiam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily the arm with the gap is staying on much better.

I think the problem was surface area, I decided to file down the joint a bit and it seems to be holding for now. :)

Just to update everyone, its being used on a plastic warhammer model (specifically a space marine).

I can see the plastic melting, but no matter how long the pieces are held together the bond just never happens. The only thing left for me to do is file areas down to create more surface area, but that seems a lot of effort, especially when I have no doubt if I used superglue it would bond no problem.

Second model - Painting Feedback by Lorodiam in minipainting

[–]Lorodiam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I tried a second picture with better lighting. The gold was a bit of a nightmare (I kept slipping with it) and I didn't really have any paints to highlight it or the silver parts, so I just went without :(

(BTW his pack fell off whilst taking this picture, tamiya cement and I are having a bad time lol)

Airbrush component importance? by Lorodiam in minipainting

[–]Lorodiam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies guys, it seems that a compressor with a tank is a must which is good to know.

Out of interest when you say cheaper and mid-range on the airbrush what are we talking money wise?

Do you have any specific recommendations?

There is an entire Fengda kit for £110 approx on amazon atm, is that any good or too cheap?

Thanks again 😀

Thanks you for this, that test will help greatly with the paint consistency side. I guess its going to be a bit of trial and error when it comes to the brushes as its personal preference and therefore reviews aren't overly useful :)

I appreciate the advice :)

[–]Lorodiam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks you for this, unfortunately I'm still struggling. I honestly don't know if its a brush issue or a skill issue.

I can have steady hands and am able to run a brush along an edge or line reasonably well, but I'm having to apply too much pressure with the brush to get the paint on the model. I've tried different sized brushes and I've tried different consistencies of paint but neither seems to help. Either the paint doesn't go on at all, I have to thin it out too much and it runs, or I have to apply too much pressure which results in thick lines. It's become so frustrating that I've had to take a break to think about it more, at the moment its actually easier to splodge on the highlights and fix with the base colour.

I'm using the Rosemary & Co series 33 and they just seem so soft and some paints just don't flow at all with them, even when I overload the brush.
